Generally college websites say monologues must be from “published plays.” If a monologue is from a play that is only available from the author’s website (it says it is copyrighted), is that considered “published” or not? Thanks for any advice.

There may be a variance in opinion, but mine would be that if the website is the only source, it’s not published.

I think “published” means you could probably find it and buy it at Samuel French. [Samuel French, Inc. The House of Plays & Musical Plays for Over 175 Years](<a href=“Homepage | Concord Theatricals”>Homepage | Concord Theatricals)

Dramatist Playservice Inc. – [Dramatists Play Service, Inc.](http://www.dramatists.com/) – is another rights holder of many published plays.
