Monologues for college auditions

Can anyone give some exapmles of what has been used for college audition monolgues? Many schools say something from a contemporary play and the student should be very familiar with the entire play. Anysuggestions???

Try something from the Crucible. It’s well known and contemporary

The Crucible is quite well-known, but as a result the monologues are very overdone. Do you have access to a good library? Check some plays or play collections out of the library and start browsing – look for characters that interest you and that you could REALISTICALLY portray. (Or check with Amazon or the Drama Book Store – you will find collections of recent plays.) When you find something interesting, be sure to read the whole play. And don’t forget – a monologue doesn’t necessarily have to be a long, uninterrupted speech; it is often possible to create a monologue out of a dialogue between several characters.
You really need to spend some time doing research to pick just the right monologue; it’s very difficult for anyone who isn’t familiar with you to give specific recommendations.
