Montessori is very popular with young children. How do colleges view students who have been in a traditionalk environment and graduate from a Montessori High School?
My son is in a Montessori middle school, and from what I hear boarding (high) schools regard it highly. Many faculty send their kids to Montessori. It’s almost impossible to find a Montessori high school Good for you! Can you PM me where you go? We really are going to miss Montessori.
I am assuming there are a lot of colleges that view Montessori HS highly. The world is changing and colleges are looking beyond “traditional” high schools. Homeschoolers, alternative schoolers and kids from specialized magnet/charters are all doing well at college. Ask your school where other students have been accepted.
You might want to look at a website called Colleges That Change Lives. There is also a book by the same name, but it’s a bit outdated. The colleges on the list might appeal to as they tend to be more personalized and experiential.
Not many Montessori high schools out there. I think Montessori is great for so many reasons. I went to one from K-6. We didn’t send kids there mainly due to proximity. The one drawback is Montessori kids are highly self motivated and great learners. But they have trouble sitting in a standard classroom setting. The people I have worked with who went there were all super creative but had trouble following a set of rules/curriculum. I think they would do well at BS, really just depends on the kid. Usually they are big readers too. So that’s helpful.
