Montreal/Quebec City

We are planning a short trip to Quebec-two nights in Montreal and two nights in Quebec City. Any fave recommendations-hotels, sights, etc?

The Hotel Frontenac is the place to stay: [Old Quebec Hotels: Luxury Quebec Resort Hotel at Fairmont](Fairmont Le Château Frontenac - Luxury Hotel in Québec City (Canada))

Thread from last year on Montreal and Quebec with lots of info and suggestions.

An older thread (2010) with a lot of information (I wrote a trip report on Quebec City):

Our favorites:

 1. free performance by Cirque du Soleil Tue-Sat under the Dufferin-Montmorency highway overpass. Performance begins at 9:30 pm but the line starts forming around 8:30-8:45.

2) also free: the Image Mill - an 81-silo Bunge grain mill that is transformed into the world’s largest projection screen (1,968 ft long). The Image Mill takes you through 401 years of Quebec history in a show that is a blend of Pink Floyd-style music and Monty Python-esque animation. Bring a bottle of wine and a picnic blanket to enjoy the show after dark.

In Montreal we very much enjoyed our 2 story suite at the W Hotel. The glass shower overlooking the living room and the 30 foot window to the balcony took some getting used to…

The shopping was amazing and if this is a romantic trip, have someone take your pix in front of the 6 ft high Jim Dine heart sculpture outside the Fine Arts Museum.

We loved visiting both of those places a couple years ago. Be sure to choose a hotel that is in the middle of things, so you can walk everywhere. In Quebec City, we did see the free cirque du soleil show. Not a big problem walking down, down, down the ‘hill’ to see it, but walking back up might have done us in. Luckily we were able to figure out how to catch a bus back…be prepared for that. I would definitely pick a hotel that is within the walled city as some are nearby but on the hill, so you’d have a climb no matter where you wanted to go.

Great suggestions everyone! I am taking notes and looking at those old threads!

We had such a nice vacation to Quebec City!! Thanks for the suggestions. We ended up bypassing Montreal this year. We were on a motorcycle and the first part of the week we had planned to go was pouring rain. So we took two days to travel to Quebec City, three nights there, and two days to travel back.
It is such a lovely lovely city-beautiful views, friendly people, looking over the river. We even had fun going out dancing!
