I want to buy a moped for college. Should I get a 50 cc. or a 150 cc. moped?
Any one out there with a moped at Chapel Hill?

well i know quite a bit about mopeds and have been around chapel hill for some time so i recommend a 50 cc (top speeds about 45 mph) if you want more speed or want to ride longer i suggest the 150cc but if its for just to class and little errands and what not, 50cc is the way to go plus they are cheaper

thanks!
Since there are a variety of brand names out there, which one should I get? (and excluding the Chinese ones that break easily)lol

if you want quality and performance…vespa (trust me…theres no better moped out there than a vespa. its the rolls royce of mopeds)

you can probably try for a tank (sub par but gets the job done), a honda metropolitan (great gas mileage and they dont break easily, plus honda has excellent service if anything happens no matter the year it was made) or you can get a chinese or korean import which are wayyy cheaper and will probably break easily and have bad service since parts are hard to come by…but they do get the job done

do you need insurance and license for a moped…and if so how much is the insurance…normally…

vickpick, hope this helps from the NC DMV website:

thanks mkm 56, that does help, but most 50 cc mopeds have atleast 40 miles /hr max speed…
would that pass as a moped legally in NC…?

i think they won’t look at the mph. As long as its 50cc or less, your fine.

yes danny…i thought so too…but the quote says that on flat ground…it should exceed 30 miles…may be they may look at it. So, if somebody who already has a moped, please let me know for sure.

I just turned 17 like a week ago…so i was happy to be legally(hehe) watching Harold and Kumar today!..lol…the movie’s great!
…
I know thats totally random! I hope I’ll be having fun at Duke this fall! … I am still waiting for UNC to accept me…(I know I’m totally insane to be still waiting)
