Hey! I know it’s very difficult to answer the question that I’m asking, since US colleges tend to look at applicants holistically, but which universities would you say are ones that focus more on marks and grades? Not saying the student has bad extra-curricular activities or essays, but let’s say they’re not as impressive as many of the kids going to top colleges. Yet they have an excellent academic record. Which school could they comfortably get into? Since top schools might be a stretch with such a background.
Can you share what range the grades and scores are?
The various California State University system campuses.
41/42 in IB, perfect SAT score, 800 and 790 in two subject SAT tests
The vast majority of schools in the U.S. admit most of their applicants, and the majority of the rest accept between 20 and 50 percent. Only 3 percent of colleges in the U.S. accept less than 20% of their applicants. So there are literally thousands of them that would accept a student like you with high test scores and grades and perhaps more average extracurricular activities.
What kind of college do you want to attend?
Most State Flagships beside UCB, UCLA, UMich, UNC-CH, and UVA.
They receive so many appplications that their main criteria are GPA*test scores, with various inflexions (ie., more GPA than test scores, certain classes taken or not, rigor, rank, etc.)
With a 41 IB, I’d target flagships such as UWisconsin, William&Mary, etc.
