Damn. I think this hit me harder than Rob Reiner. Maybe it’s the piling on of all the bad news. Day after day.
So many losses and tragedies lately. I can accept that Rob Reiner was 78, but it’s really hard to believe that Anthony Geary was also 78!
I’m sad that Anthony Geary has died, but I really hated Luke Spencer, so his death doesn’t hit as hard to me. I’ve never really known much about him as a real person either.
The Reiners’ deaths are just sad in every way.
It’s hard to imagine anything worse than being physically attacked by your own child. One of them may have witnessed the death of their spouse at the hands of their son before succumbing to him as well.
Horrific.
And their daughter finding their bodies!!
I wonder - were they sleeping? Could one not run? Was it a drug fueled outrage? I watch too many shows like Criminal Minds.
The horror - this is just nuts. It was interesting to read they were watching him, even got permission to bring him to a party the night b4.
It’s so horrific on every single level - as is every family murder scheme.
They’ve got multiple other kids - I think they have 3, he had one with Penny Marshall, and it’s just so hard to fathom - they’ve lost a family and yes, the one who found it - OMG. There’s likely grandchildren, etc.
Addiction, perhaps, caused this - I do hope there’s a way to keep drugs out of our society. I don’t think there is because there are users (the wealthy included) but maybe some of this craziness can be prevented in the future.
I wondered the same. I read their throats were slit, which made me wonder if he did this to them in their sleep. Worse, I wondered if he stabbed them while awake, and once incapacitated, he slit their throats.
All horrific speculation. But the crime suggests extreme rage and was very very personal.
I’ve read on some reliable sources that they were awake and the mother was alive when found by the daughter, Michele told her daughter that Nick had committed the crime.
I’ve watched numerous tributes today from people whose lives were changed by Rob Reiner’s love and good humor and kindness. Kevin Bacon, Keifer Sutherland, Jerry O’Connell, Mark Ruffalo, James Woods…just so many people in shock and tears. They share so many wonderful stories. His daughter Romy said she grew up in the best family ever. It’s really heartbreaking.
Given that the son checked into a hotel at 4am, leaving blood all over the room and that the bodies were found at 340pm. or so, both must have been killed nearly 12 hours before they were found. I read that rigor mortis had already set in.
When the night
Has come
And the land is dark
And the moon
Is the only
Light we’ll see
No, I won’t
Be afraid.
No, I won’t
Be afraid
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me
If the sky
That we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains
Should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry
I won’t cry
No, I won’t
Shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me
I don’t think that Rob would want us to be said. I don’t think he would want to be the cause of that. He loved to laugh and to make other people laugh. He spent his whole life working to bring joy and laughter to others. I think he would want us to hang together and to exchange hugs.
I’ve been thinking about The Grinch lately. The way that the people of Whoville beat the grinch was to come together to sing and to create joy and happiness. I think that Rob would like that.
Whenever you’re in trouble won’t you stand by me
Oh, stand
Stand by me
Stand by me
I have read that they had been dead for several hours when found, some reportedly said that rigor mortis had begun to set in, and that they were in different areas of the house.
Growing up, Rob (Robby” as he was known then) was best friends with the older brother of a friend of mine, until the Reiners moved to CA when Rob was 13. My friend’s brother was just interviewed about his childhood friendship with Rob. We all lived in the same home town. My friend posted the link of the interview on his fbk page. So close to home…..
I grew up in a home with a lot of yelling, and it just traumatized me. My parents loved watching All In The Family, and all of that yelling between Archie and “Meathead” and Gloria bothered me so much because it was all too familiar. It took me growing up and watching reruns to appreciate the acting and writing of that show. Rob Reiner was brilliant in the role, as were all of his costars.
I read an interview with Sally Struthers from 6 months ago, in which she said that “Rob was light years ahead of the rest of us” on “All in the Family”. She said that he made editing suggestions about the script during their reads and while she at first resented it if it meant that one of her lines was cut, she quickly realized that he was spot on every time and that his edits were always for the benefit of the production. So, credit for the writing of the show, which you came to appreciate, goes partly to Rob for the finished product.
She also said that he was already planning ahead for a career in directing and production while she was just worried about learning her lines. He was interested in the big picture even back then. She seemed genuinely fond of him.
I saw Stand by Me last night. At the end the narrator tells the fate of the Chris Chambers character. “He was stabbed in the neck” and died. Eerie.
I have DVR’d the courtroom scene of A Few Good Men. We watched that Monday.
