One of the heroes of my youth: Mickey Lolich, hero of the 1968 World Series for the Detroit Tigers, dies at 85
I was only ten, but I remember that game so well and all the celebrating afterward. My maternal grandmother was a huge Tigers fan, and we listened to the game at her house. So much rejoicing all over Detroit/Michigan that day.
Wow, a name I hadn’t heard in a while. A great, not quite hall of fame, pitcher - but around a long time. Added a knuckler if I recall.
That’s a fun name to hear. Sorry it’s this way.
Same. I was 10 again when I heard this. ![]()
I have a World Series pennant from that game
Edit: Oops, I lied. I have an American League Championship pennant from 1968. Lists all the players on it.
Your post prompted me to look up Lindy McDaniel, an excellent relief pitcher who had a 21-year-long professional career. Lindy McDaniel - Wikipedia He belonged to the fundamentalist church my parents were in. One summer when I was five, we rented his house because my dad had a summer job in his town. He really was a nice guy - I have his autograph somewhere. I found out he passed away in 2020 at the age of 84, from COVID.
Oh Smitty, you know exactly what to say. RIP
This makes me sad. Kryptonite is such a great song. He wrote it at the age of 15 in math class.
Members of two bands that produced iconic songs in their era
I loved the 5th Dimension, which my mother always called the Dimension Five. ![]()
I just say the news about James Van Der Beek. He was so young!
Greg Brown who has the guitarist for the band Cake passed away at age 56…he wrote the band’s biggest hit “The Distance” ![]()
Oh! RIP Bud Cort. Harold and Maude is in the top 5 of my favorite movies. A beautiful love story about the 2 most beautiful misfits. ![]()
Oops, no, Dick Van Dyke didn’t die!!
I gasped out loud when I thought beloved Van Dyke had died.
Van De Beek’s death puts focus on the high cost of medical care in the US:
Zoe Saldaña has pledged $2500/month to his widow … ongoing. Supposedly, she has been quietly assisting the family financially during his illness. This really touched me.
