More insight into Upenn

Where did you guys get information to write about “Why Upenn” essay?
Is the information on the website enough?
Where should I look to write my “why upenn” essay?

A lot of what they said in the information session I used in my why penn…

You should look into yourself and find why you want to attend Penn.

i agree. just answer why u want to attend penn. what does it offer that nowhere else offers for you…

I’m not just talking about the essay. What made YOU guys to apply to Upenn? I’m convinced that I can write an insightful essay about wharton…but i’m not interested in business. I just know about the school. But i don’t really know about the college -_-

Some interesting thngs to note about Penn, it’s history and it’s students:

Penn is known for being the most “forward thinking” of the Ivies. Innovation is it’s forte. In any place where ou have innovation, you have risks. They go hand in hand. Penn’s students, collectively, might not have the highest SAT amongst the Ivies (Harvard, Yale and Princeton have slightly higher medians). But, that’s what Penn is about! Ben Franklin, Penn’s founder, was bad at math. It’s a documented fact. He was also a rambling essayist. His writings are known for going off in all sorts of directions…as if his mind was working faster than his pen could carry. Imagine that, a kid who doesn’t like/perform well at math and probably wouldn’t have been able to gather his thoughts enough to write a good college essay…and then he discovers electricty and founds one of the most highly regarded universities in the world. That’s what I think about when I think of Penn. It’s a place where the students are “real” people who aren’t perfect…yet, they go on to do the most amazing things…and live on the cutting edge of innovation.

why did I apply to penn? foremost, it was the people I have met there over the years… like all the kids there are so interesting and you know that they’re real smart but there’s few of those flagrant antisocial types at like harvard, etc. the kids in the college are pretty chill and have lives (except for this one guy from my school that got in… but thats like irrelevant)… and the campus is very compact so it doesn’t take too long to go from any one place to the other… i love van pelt library, which is where im gonna stay half the time since its impossible to study if you live in the quad… and umm i think the biggest claim to fame penn has is its awesome parties. its a very social school… i made a ton of friends just pretending i was a part time commuting freshman. and academically, the school is generally at the forefront in all sorts of research. like a couple years back, one of the professors (marty seligman, youll be hearing a lot about him if you study psych at any level) founded like his own branch of psychology… so i guess my conclusion is… penn = hard work eh but A LOT OF FUN … and if youve grown up in philly like i have (just from going there so much) the city is just very comforting. but its actually sort of crap…ohhwelll

On interesting sidenote, Van Pelt is called the Library of Death, as the main part of the money for the bulding came in the form of a commemorative donation to commemorate the young Penn student Van Pelt, who died at the age of 19.

Sort of in the same sense as Stanford is the University of Death.

Oh, and on the parties. Trust me, you haven’t been to the best ones yet.

sooo i should be expecting better parties than the ones at nso and fling??? SWEET… just let me know when these mad awesome parties happen to be and ill make sure im downtown that weekend…

I like that about Ben Franklin…I never knew that he was bad essayist!! thanks a lot, guys

Lets put it this way:

I guess the NSO parties are fun if you enjoy wading through the entire freshman class to get half a glass of watered down beer. (Yes, NSO parties are utter and complete crap.)

The good parties are other places other times. Not as crowded. No kegs. I guess you will have to find out for yourself when you enroll.

thats funny… cause at nso i went to a very very sweet hotel party (meaning NO kegs and awesome drinks) and i actually dont drink beer… and yeah when frats get too crowded, its pretty sweet having an offcampus apartment to go back to? so um i think i know where good parties are. and being an incoming freshman, im def looking forward to nso…cause apparently i know where to go, and u dont

OWNT.

(haha, it’s the russojewish connection, motha*uckas!) [how smart am I for getting three letters of the f word to show?)

Owl’s parties are the best. period.

Well, shorty, I guess if I bump in to you you will be at the good parties. Otherwise, enjoy your “hotel” parties. I’ve been to a few. Nothing compared to what bern700 is referring to. Too bad monte carlo and the late nights after it are over. Nothing beats a good eurotrash crowd.

Bern knows where the good parties are, although his list is not complete. The ****tail parties of some other places are missing. Not as european crowd, but still good.

yeah man Monte Carlo is the ****.

I heard today that the frat guys like to **** on the benjamin franklin statue every weekend - the one thats sitting on the bench…
