Sorry guys. You have been so helpful. Do students at Tulane use bikes to get around? We live near UCSB where there are more bikes then cars.
A vanity question- Do students carry backpacks?

Bikes, not really – at least for those that live on campus. Not sure about backpacks. I know my son has one, and probably does carry it.

mom60 - I was trying to be observant of the “backpack” question while there in April. I saw lots of backpacks and S is planning to take a backpack. He is no fashionista, but does not like to be odd-man out, so I know he was scanning the environment.

Now, for girls, I noticed backpacks and, as an alternative, what I would call a “tote/boat bag.” Somewhat of a canvas look, but often with colorful design (stripes, florals, etc.) I’m going to estimate that girls were relatively evenly split between the two approaches.

Believe it or not, there was a thread on this on the Parent’s forum - can’t remember the title. But there were links and everything.

jmmom- that thread was what got D and I talking. Here the girls and guys all use backpacks. And she was planning on using one. While she claims to not be a fashionista she also would not want to be the odd-man-out. I couldn’t imagine her with a fashionable tote. A woven bag from Mexico or a batik bag from the far east is much more her style. But I have learned to never say never.

Many students use bikes as well as backpacks. S just uses a standard backpack.
