More than one family member applying for the same scholarship

My 3 children are seniors in high school. There are a few local scholarships which they are competitive for. I am not sure what strategy they should use to increase their chances of winning the scholarships. They all have different strengths but in general they are highly qualified and have gotten into highly ranked schools (per USN&R). Should they all apply for the same scholarships or should they divide the scholarships entries up among themselves? Thanks for your input.

have everyone apply everywhere of course

how do you have 3 seniors? Are they triplets?

Use the law of probability. ;)

they should apply to the same scholarships. that gives u, the parent, such a great chance to reduce the amount of money u have to pay out of the pocket. think about it. if one child gets every scholarship and the other 2 dont, then u can allocate those “extra” funds to the other two children. sounds to me like a pretty good deal.

Exactly. I don’t see how the OP would lose. The scholarship committee won’t be turned off by people from the same family applying for the same scholarship. Also, it doesn’t matter which of your children gets the same scholarship, since the whole point is to relieve the burden on your wallet. At the same time, your probability of winning the scholarship has increased approximately 300%.

Of course, if you’re looking to save labour (since it would be pretty fishy if 3 children decided to share essay ideas for the same scholarship), then apply for different scholarships first.

Thank you for the great advice. Yes, they are triplets.

ah! how cool! i am a triplet too!! – lets just say my siblings and i applied for about twenty of the same scholarships…oh well…either way, my parents are getting a benefit of one of us winning, cutting the costs of another child down too…i’d say have them all apply!
