On the school housing website (http://housing.unc.edu/), if you click on Morrison 07-08 assignments, there is a list of names. Does this mean that the morrison community is full? should i not bother to put it in my housing application?

Morrison is mostly sophomores. There might be some space in it, but the way it sounded few freshmen would be getting in.

They reserved a few spots for freshmen.

My D and three of her friends are assigned to a Morrison super suite next year (the top three floors will be three bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom), but the third bedroom in their suite hasn’t been assigned according to the list. They don’t know if there will be two freshmen put into the third bedroom or if it might be the R.A.'s bedroom.

My D is not on the list, but a few weeks later got confirmation. She is a sophomore.

They reserve a certain percentage of rooms for freshmen in every dorm. The supersuites are all reserved for upperclassmen but I think there will be a fair number of freshmen there, though I think if you want to make sure you’re around the maximum number of underclassmen then you should pick another community.

Yeah, Morrion is mostly sophmores, so they put the list up early. I too will be living in a super suite next year.

My son, a freshman, has been assigned to Morrison next year in a 4 room suite with 8 kids. How does this work with ONE toilet, two sinks and one shower? This seems unbelievable. Am I just being an over- protective mom?
Anyone out there with experience with this type of arrangement? Any comments are appreciated. Thank you.

Mom - look for my pm

I don’t think you’re being over-protective, I just think you’re over-reacting a little. Almost all my friends at UNC live in suites, and not one of them has ever had an issue with the bathroom. 8 people to one bathroom sounds bad, but it really does work out. People shower at different times of the day, etc. Girls can go back to their rooms to do hair and makeup. I wouldn’t worry about the bathroom in the suite; it’s not a big deal. : )

Thanks cat. I hope that you are right. Will try to chill out a bit!

Don’t worry; your son will be fine: ) If the 8 high-maintenance girls I know can handle it, your son should not have one problem. And if somebody gets really desperate or something, there’s always the bathroom in the lobby, lol. My mom actually mentioned that to me, haha. If your son and his suitemates kind of discuss bathroom/getting ready routines after they all move in, that will also help to free up the bathroom. : )

Actually, most of Morrison is freshman. The rest are sophomores (mailnly).

Uh, wrong. The vast majority is sophmores.

Morrison is largely Sophomores

They really pitched Morrison to sophomores…with special tours and early signup for them and upperclassmen in early spring. Not sure how many sophomores went for it though…but it seems like a lot.

just so everyone knows…there are approx. 12 suites, 4 on floor 3, 6, and 9 that only have 2 rooms in the suite. The other rooms have been turned into giant storage closets. For the rooms on the ninth floor, that means no living room even though it is suppose to be a super suite!

Does this mean that all of the suites on the third, sixth and ninth floors are 2 bedroom suites? How many suites are there on each floor?

From what I’ve heard, only 12 suites (4 on the 3rd floor, 4 on the 6th floor, and 4 on the 9th floor) have 2 bedrooms. I’m pretty sure the suites affected are the first ones on each wing. Meaning when you walk down the hall, the suite that is closest to the elevators. While it might be nice to only share a bathroom w/ 3 other people, I was wondering when housing was planning on telling those affected about this…? Especially those on the 9th floor who are expecting a super suite, and then on move-in day see that their living room and one of the bedrooms is a giant storage/maintenence/AC/ whatever room…

Due to a clerical error at the Housing Department, D has just now gotten her housing assignment. She will be living on the 10th fllor of Morrison. I am glad she will be living in a newly renovated suite, but I have so many questions!! Can I tell from her room number if she will be in one of those suites with the giant storage closets?? If she is in a regular suite, What is provided in this mythical “common room?” I gather they have replaced all the built-ins with actual furniture. Do we know if these new chests of drawers fit the shelves being marketed to students?? Any one with any Morrison info, please speak up!!
