a lot of mosquitoes in the Summer in Ann Arbor?

engle…you’re hilarious. This is your 2nd post and you ask about mosquitoes…LOL!! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Michigan has plenty of those annoying critters in the summer. Just have the repellent spray handy and you’ll be fine.

you know…i don’t remember them being a particular bother…but then again I am an eagle scout…so the little buggers have to be pretty audacious to bother me…i’d pack a little thing of cutters or “off” if you are concerned.

yes (ten characters)

They’re not bad, trust me! And I usually hate bugs.

I should say…spend more time preparing yourself for the intense heat than the bugs…

Depends. I mean the mosquitoes aren’t that large, they rarely get larger than your fist. And if you put on the net over your bed at night, you should be fine (but other insects can be an issue.)

lol…nice

Look out for the centipedes.

As long as you don’t go near the river, bugs really aren’t a problem in Ann Arbor. It’s enough of an urban setting that you don’t really have many good breeding grounds for mosquitos near campus.

If you’re worried about them for orientation, kb54010 is right when he says you should worry more about the weather. It can get extremely hot (which goes bad with walking outside+being crammed in rooms with tons of other people+no AC in dorms), and it can rain like crazy (which goes bad with walking outside+being crammed in rooms with tons of other wet people).

Are you serious? NO AC?!.., wow…, how do you guys stay cool then? drink plenty of water?

haha…yeah…the only dorm that will have them is MoJo once it reopens (2008/9)…so…bring a fan friends!

So, like the mosquitos and heat can’t be worse than down here, can it? I live right next to the Everglades.

I doubt it. Still, the heat can be pretty bad. In a hot summer, around July or August I’d say it’s comparable to Florida. That’s a hot summer, though. The mercury doesn’t climb past ninety every day for 6+ months of the year.

As for the mosquitoes, I don’t live in AA but I wouldn’t think that they’d be as bad in the city (however, I could be completely off base). Get into the more swampy, wooded areas (suburbia, in other words) - there will be lots of mosquitoes, and they are hungry.

Unless you’re down by the river or in a swampy, wet area, the mosquitos are not a big deal. It’s going to be too cold for mosquitos for all but maybe 2 weeks of your time on campus. Which is why no AC is no big deal.

unless you plan on camping out in the arb for the whole year, don’t worry about mosquitoes. and if you live in the arb, mosquitoes are probably the least of your worries.

there are some pretty massive squirrells in ann arbor

guys…don’t tell anyone, but secretly, I want to hunt down a squirrel, skin it in the diag, cook it, and have it for dinner…there’s plenty of meat to go around >-D.
