Mosquitoes seem to love both of my D’s. They live on opposite sides of the country and they are both the only one’s in their houses with legs full of bites. The bites turn into welts and they both tend to itch them and end up with legs full of scabs.
One of my D’s had someone tell her she should start taking vit B1. Has anyone tried this or have any great remedies. One of my D’s would love to be able to sit outside on her porch in the evening without getting bitten alive.

I recently was told that it was Vitamin C which was the mosquito repellent. Not sure if it works.

Also “skin so soft” by Avon is supposed to be helpful as a mosquito repellant.

I too get bitten up, while my DH – not. I just spray with Off whenever I have to be outside for more than five minutes. If that’s what your Ds have to do to sit on their porch, so be it. There are worse things.

^I agree. When you are “blessed” with a special attraction for the nasty little biters, you need a spray with DEET. I have tried all of the non-pesticide sprays and lotions. Nothing stops them. But I do not know about the vitamins. I will have to research that. I do know that they are attracted to CO2. I guess some people just have sweeter breath.
I used to be the one with all the bites, but my younger son has taken over that role. Poor kid. And it is more troubling considering the many diseases they carry, even in the US (west nile, etc.). Meanwhile, OP, advise your daughters to empty all standing water from around their apartments/dorms/houses. Even if it is a very small puddle.

Try the new OFF clip on thing. I don’t wear it, I just clip it to my chair–it works great. There is a “lantern” version, too.

I got a product called Sawyer for DD’s clothes for a rafting trip. You put it on the clothes and they were mosquito repellent for up to 10 washes or so. I don’t know that it would be useful everyday, but they might try it…

I have heard about Vit B, but you have to take it for a good month or so before you start seeing any beneficial efects.
I sprayed myself once with a repellent that contained DEET - got awful, awful hives !

I read that if you put a “dryer sheet” like Bounce in your pocket it keeps the mosquitos away although I have never tried it.

Listerine sprayed in an area is also supposed to be a natural repellant.

If anyone tries this let me know if it works!

We live next to a pond, so we definitely have mosquito issues. Several years ago, we bought a Mosquito Magnet (google it) based on the recommendation of family members living in Houston. We learned several things about mosquitoes… one being, they don’t ‘migrate’ very far, so once you’ve rid your yard of them, it’s not like the ones from the next block over will replace them. And I know it works because when we empty the little net that catches the little buggers, it’s full of them. We have a dog, so I won’t use the yard sprays.

This is an option for those who wish to rid their yard of mosquitoes, but you’ll have to find another solution when you want a repellant that works when you’re not at home.

I rarely get bitten by mosquitoes, I have heard that they prefer those who eat sugar/meat, but don’t know how true it is.
I have also heard about B6- don’t know about other B’s

I’d try putting lavender or rosemary in your drawers or getting the aromatherapy oil that is available.

I hate insect repellants, but if you must resort to that… I find Cutter’s products work. I sometimes just have to use some while playing golf.

Skin-so-soft is not quite so annoying of a smell and feel (to me), and I have used it successfully.

Sometimes a breeze sends them away… maybe a fan on the porch?

For the last few years I’ve had our property sprayed monthly by a garlic-based mosquito repellent. Our organic lawn service does it. They spray the grass, trees, shrubs. It makes a tremendous difference.

I sent D1 a link about the Off fan product. Also am going to have her try the bounce. Those are both pretty easy options to try. The mosquito magnet or having her lawn and yard sprayed are not an option at this time in her life.
With the skin so soft how do you apply it? I notice they have the bath oil and lotion but also have a skin so soft repellent.
D2 lives at home. She is the only one in the house who is getting bitten. There are 3 other people living at our home and not a one of us has even a single bite. We have our property sprayed quarterly. Our dogs are treated for fleas. We are not sure where she is getting the bites. She is really active and spends most of her day outside. So not sure if she is getting bit at her barn or at the beach maybe by sand fleas.

I, too, am a mosquito magnet. I have tried skin-so-soft and it has not helped much if any.
