Most Accepting Engineering Schools

I’m trying to compile a list of transfer schools for next year, and I don’t really know what to look at. I’m skinny, gay, nerdy, kinda artsy, but study electrical engineering. I’m looking for mid-tier schools (i.e. Tufts would be an extreme reach, BU about on par, and OSU would be a safety for me) with accepting campus bodies where I could make more than a few (mostly female) friends. I’m from the west coast and would somewhat prefer to transfer back there, as I’ve found the east coast (where I currently go to school) to be homophobic and generally unkind towards anyone outside the norm.

Although I’d prefer to get a broad range of ideas, my stats are:
SAT: 1510
HS GPA (UW): 3.8
College GPA (predicted at the end of this semester): 3.31

In case that helps inform suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

Cost constraints?

In one of your other posts, you mentioned Alaska residency. University of Alaska campuses in Anchorage and Fairbanks have electrical engineering.

West coast schools with WUE tuition for transfers in electrical engineering include:

Cal Poly Pomona (limited number of WUE discounts)
California State University - Sacramento
Eastern Washington University
Oregon Institute of Technology
Portland State University
University of Hawaii - Manoa
Washington State University
Western Washington University

Most WUE schools are not that hard to get admitted to (generally, they are schools that are not in high demand, so they offer seats at the WUE discount to attract students; schools in high demand charge full out-of-state price). However, many of them can have large commuter student populations.

Seems like that may be specific to your current college, based on your other posts.

Northern Arizona University is another WUE school that has ABET accredited Electrical Engineering. Here are some links about LGBTQ resources:

Financially, anything with tuition ~40k and under is feasible (although in areas like NY and CA housing might price me out of being able to attend). Schools that offer out-of-state aid, or other private schools with institutional aid, are my top picks for this reason.

Do you mean tuition < $40k (i.e. total cost of attendance < $55-60k after adding living expenses), or total cost of attendance < $40k?

For total cost of attendance at out-of-state list price < $40k, the non-WUE CSUs in California fall just under that amount. Those with electrical engineering include:

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (limited WUE)
California State University, Bakersfield
California State University, Chico
California State University, Fresno
California State University, Fullerton
California State University, Long Beach
California State University, Los Angeles
California State University, Northridge
California State University, Sacramento (WUE)
San Diego State University
San Francisco State University
San Jose State University

Based on your stated non-academic preferences, some may be more suitable than others. For example, you may prefer San Francisco to Bakersfield, although living expenses may be higher in San Francisco than Bakersfield.
