I know there is already an 18 page thread of most attractive campuses in the nation, but I would like more specific opinions on the Midwest alone. When I say Midwest I mean Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana.

The schools I have seen/visited in order for my taste:

Notre Dame

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

University of Wisconsin-Madison

Marquette

I’d put Northwestern on the list: a nice campus with a mix of old and new buildings and lots of greenery. Also, a prime lakefront location with a killer view of the Chicago skyline!

**This thread starts and ends with Indiana University

It’s COMMON that students pick IU over more prestigious
colleges BECAUSE of its campus alone. The fact that
every building is made of limestone theme, IU has a
LIBERAL ARTS SMALL SCHOOL FEEL for a STATE UNIVERSITY.
It’s amazing, and unparalleled. Much of its architecture is
modeled after Oxford. I know MANY students who aren’t in
honors because they didn’t apply. They thought Indiana
would be their “safety” school, but when they made a visit
to IU they changed their minds at the last minute and turned
down Notre Dame, Northwestern, Michigan, Dartmouth (me),
and more schools to attend IU OOS without scholarships.

It’s that amazing. Take a look at the pictures for yourself.**

Notre Dame by far has the prettiest campus. But I second Northwestern to be on the list. It’s a beautiful green campus on Lake Michigan, and has stunning views of the Chicago skyline.

Notre Dame’s about a tie with Indiana. Kalamazoo is nice. those photos of St Olaf look great. Very underrated school.

Ohio U and Miami (Ohio) are both very nice…and I hear U of Toledo is surprisingly nice. Central/Eastern/Western Michigan are certainly nothing to get excited about. Nor are Oakland U or U of Mich-Dearborn. DePaul is in a wonderful neighborhood, but the campus itself is just ok. Denison is also nice.

Those photos hardly do the schools justice, Luther is set in a giant vally surrounded by hills and forest, and has the “#1 ranked view to watch a football game” by ESPN. It is very modern and very very gorgeous.

St. Olaf is set on a hill and has a very old english theme with cobblestoneish buildings that all have a central theme. Grinnell has a mix of building including dorms that make you think you are at oxford or cambridge.

UW Madison’s campus is hit or miss. Some areas are about as ugly as any you could find- eg. humanities building is built like a fortress but without the functionality. However, there are areas of the campus that are great- eg picnic point, liz waters, bascom. I don’t think Madison will win a whole lotta points for being beautiful but it certainly is not homogeneous.
