Most Attractive Midwest Campuses

I know there is already an 18 page thread of most attractive campuses in the nation, but I would like more specific opinions on the Midwest alone. When I say Midwest I mean Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana.

The schools I have seen/visited in order for my taste:

Notre Dame

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

University of Wisconsin-Madison

Marquette

Then other Wisconsin State Schools.

I thought U of Indiana was a very pretty campus.

Top 3 Midwest LAC Campuses

1) Luther College (Decora IA) http://gallery.luther.edu/admis/albums/campus_images/aerial.jpg</a>
2) St Olaf College (Northfield, Minnesota) <a href=“About St. Olaf – St. Olaf College”>About St. Olaf – St. Olaf College;
3) Grinnell College (Grinnell Iowa) http://image20.webshots.com/20/7/89/47/199278947PASJbt_fs.jpg</a></p>

These are the Top 3 that i have visited

Total I have gone to: Beloit, Knox, Luther, Hope, Kalamazoo, Illinois Wesleyan, Carleton, Macalaster, Cornell College, Grinnell, St. Olaf, Monmoth, Lawrence, Ripon

I’d put Northwestern on the list: a nice campus with a mix of old and new buildings and lots of greenery. Also, a prime lakefront location with a killer view of the Chicago skyline!

The University of Chicago is absolutely gorgeous, although I’m a bit biased!

I really liked University of Cincinnati, but it’s much more of an urban campus.

Loyola University Chicago’s campus on Google Earth looks nice lol. But that’s only if you want an urban experience

**This thread starts and ends with Indiana University

It’s COMMON that students pick IU over more prestigious
colleges BECAUSE of its campus alone. The fact that
every building is made of limestone theme, IU has a
LIBERAL ARTS SMALL SCHOOL FEEL for a STATE UNIVERSITY.
It’s amazing, and unparalleled. Much of its architecture is
modeled after Oxford. I know MANY students who aren’t in
honors because they didn’t apply. They thought Indiana
would be their “safety” school, but when they made a visit
to IU they changed their minds at the last minute and turned
down Notre Dame, Northwestern, Michigan, Dartmouth (me),
and more schools to attend IU OOS without scholarships.

It’s that amazing. Take a look at the pictures for yourself.**

Well if you included Ohio you could list Kenyon, the prettiest college in the nation.

Notre Dame by far has the most beautiful campus in the midwest

radronOmega:
Let me get this straight—you turned down Dartmouth solely because you think Indiana’s campus is prettier?

Notre Dame by far has the prettiest campus. But I second Northwestern to be on the list. It’s a beautiful green campus on Lake Michigan, and has stunning views of the Chicago skyline.

Indiana- agree that it trumps all.

Although I like Notre Dame’s campus, it is too isolated for my taste; my preferences, therefore, are:

 1. Northwestern University
 2. The Univ. of Chicago
 3. Indiana University
 4. The Univ. of Wisconsin
 5. Notre Dame

Kenyon College is beautiful, but too isolated, too small & too rural in my opinion.

Big college wise I would have to say Indiana.

LAC wise its a complete different story. Hanover(IN) has a nice campus overlooking the Ohio River that is really nice.

Northwestern is not pretty. Notre Dame is amazing.

Northwestern has a few nice buildings, some nice trees, and the lakefront thing is great, but overall it’s not a beautiful school.

I’m pretty familiar with all the Big 10 schools except Penn State and Minnesota.

I’d rank them:

Indiana
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Purdue
Northwestern
Michigan
Illinois
Iowa
Ohio State

Minnesota and PSU ???

Notre Dame’s about a tie with Indiana. Kalamazoo is nice. those photos of St Olaf look great. Very underrated school.

Ohio U and Miami (Ohio) are both very nice…and I hear U of Toledo is surprisingly nice. Central/Eastern/Western Michigan are certainly nothing to get excited about. Nor are Oakland U or U of Mich-Dearborn. DePaul is in a wonderful neighborhood, but the campus itself is just ok. Denison is also nice.

Those photos hardly do the schools justice, Luther is set in a giant vally surrounded by hills and forest, and has the “#1 ranked view to watch a football game” by ESPN. It is very modern and very very gorgeous.

St. Olaf is set on a hill and has a very old english theme with cobblestoneish buildings that all have a central theme. Grinnell has a mix of building including dorms that make you think you are at oxford or cambridge.

Notre Dame wins by a landslide for campus alone, but surrounding area blows.

UW Madison’s campus is hit or miss. Some areas are about as ugly as any you could find- eg. humanities building is built like a fortress but without the functionality. However, there are areas of the campus that are great- eg picnic point, liz waters, bascom. I don’t think Madison will win a whole lotta points for being beautiful but it certainly is not homogeneous.
