Most boring books you've ever read?

Of Mice and Men could have been a lot worse. It wasn’t that bad.
I didn’t think Pride and Prejudice was bad, but I’m not sure if I even finished it. :P

OMG. The House of Mirth. WORST BOOK EVER.

I thought The Canterbury Tales were hilarious. -_-

Robinson Crusoe was pretty boring though, not gonna lie.

^ oh they’re hilarious…in sparknotes. In it’s actual literary form, however, I have no idea how any high schooler could read Middle English.

The Scarlet Letter. Horrendous. I gave up after the 50 page intro and read the sparknotes, which was just as painful.

I thought the Canterbury Tales aren’t studied in Middle English until college level, at the earliest? It requires translation to some extent.

Some boring but good books: the LOTR trilogy goes on a bit! Also Insurgent, and some non-fiction. Weirdly, my favourite book, Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks, gets boring at times for different people. I found the love stuff boring, others found the war scenes similarly.

You know a book is boring when even the SparkNotes can’t make it any easier.

I didn’t give up after the first 50 pages like you, but I had to refer back to SparkNotes after each chapter in order to even catch what happened. It was painful.

I loved Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and the Canterbury Tales.

Most boring is definitely the Count of Monte Cristo.

Fahrenheit 451.

I’d say “The Plague” by Camus and “The Awakening” by Chopin. I originally hated “Heart of Darkness” but it has since earned my grudging respect.

It may be considered a play but I would have to say Taming of the Shrew

gasp how can so many of you hate the scarlet letter, its awesome! But I hate secret life of bees and all Jane Austen, also, I found king lear nearly impossible to get through until the last two scenes where someone dies ever other line.

THE ALCHEMIST.
Ughhhhhhh my frustration with that book knows no bounds.
It wasn’t difficult to understand or anything, but it was boring as hell and honestly, it was dumb.

I imagine the Tempest would have been pretty boring if I had read it.

I didn’t mind Fahrenheit 451 that much, but I despised Dandelion Wine. I was assigned that book back in middle school, read about half before giving up only to find out that the teacher hated it too! Waste of time and money

Hahaha. Pride and Prejudice. There’s a war over it on facebook and I’m on the side of it is boring.

All those romance novels in high school erghh. Yeah, I don’t care if you have a broken heart or were rejected /your undying passion / being awkward whatnot. Just stop wasting my time fictional character! :P

@MutaRiSC we studied the Tempest two years ago, but luckily through recreating the scenes with playmobil. Nobody exactly knows what use that was to us, but it was fun and meant we didn’t have to read it properly. The bits we did read were pretty boring though.

The Deerslayer.

Walden, Hard times-“maybe If I finished it…” lol
The stranger==> Boring in a good way, his apathetic view…

My essays—> http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-essays/1441496-supplement-essay-reed-bryn-mawr.html#post15284291

Gotta say, Hamlet was way drawn out. The guy was so indecisive!

-A Tale of Two Cities, just gave up and used SparkNotes
-Julius Caesar, slept during that class…
-The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, had to read over the summer, read half and then used SparkNotes
-The Awakening, same as above

Ahh Fahrenheit 451 was great! I’ve used it for so many essays, it’s really versatile.
