Most cost-effective way from Virginia to Ithaca?

<p>Hello!</p>

<p>I have been admitted for the class of 2016. I am definitely very excited; however, I was admitted to a few other colleges and I am trying to decide if Cornell should be my pick. I've never actually been to Ithaca, and I want to visit so that I can get a feel for the campus personally. However, I live about 8 hours away here in Virginia according to Google Maps, so this gets kind of tricky. Besides driving, what would be the cheapest way to visit?</p>

<p>I have a friend from Virginia who has taken a train to New York and then a bus to Ithaca from there. The bus is typically around $45 one way. I don’t know anything about the train.</p>
