Paul Newman - think he was one of the biggest hunks, all the way up to the time of his passing.

Ryan Reynolds is one that I think is looking way more adorable each year.

Mel Gibson…the early years.*

I used to think Timothy Dalton and James Franciscus were the most handsome men ever born, but then I saw Jon Hamm in Mad Men. Wow.

Willing to out myself as True Blood fan to give due praise to the yummy Alexander Skarsgard. Especially when shirtless.

And Stephen Moyer. And Ryan Kwanten. And Sam Trammell…

These are some of my picks ![]()

My favs:

Already mentioned: Cary Grant, Robert Redford, David Strathairn, Colin Firth, and among young actors, Ryan Reynolds.

Time Machine Favorite: Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October.

Quirky personal favorite: Jeff Goldblum in recent Law and Order, CI episodes. In his leather jacket, he’s fine. And our age, too. Amazing for late fifties.

Hugh Grant seems to have become a bit smarmy but I saw him in a diner (came face to face with him) in the Hamptons in the late 90’s. His blue eyes were absolutely devastating.

My ex-husband was so handsome people asked for his autograph. He usually signed “George Harrison”, but passed for others too.

Another vote for Jon Hamm.

Not exactly an actor, but contestant Robert on SYTYCD is supernaturally good-looking.

You can say that again! Also Shemar Moore, and I loooove Jude Law.

Add these two to my list. ![]()

Mel Gibson was amazing in The Year of Living Dangerously.

He seems to have lost his beauty - inside and out. Sad.

Yes, I was just going to answer “not Mel Gibson.”

Yes - is he mentally ill, an alcoholic, a bigot, or some combination of the three? I find myself hoping that the latest story about him isn’t true, though I’ve never been a fan, because how sad to think that it actually might be true.

More on topic - Gary Cooper! (Almost too beautiful early in his career.)

Denzel Washington.

And I’ll put my head in the lion’s mouth and nominate the plastic scientologist, Tom Cruise. I just saw Knight and Day, and he is still cute, though he must have had serious work done to look the way he does at 50. Either that or he has a portrait in his attic or took lessons from Dick Clark.

LOL mythmom, I vote for the portrait in the attic. I understand why people like Cruise, but he is sooo not my type.

My H has aged into the older Sean Connery. I am beginning to appreciate that. I never liked the young Sean Connery.

So Hunt for Red October used to have me dying for Alec Baldwin, but I’m moving on to Sean Connery in it.

This is a truly delicious thread.

Okay. Will say that there is just no topping a young Gregory Peck or Jimmy Stewart. It’s all about the mouth. These were guys with great lips way before technology intruded. AndI think somehow the great lips are connected with the great eyes: limpid, sensitive, but oh so masculine. Yeah.

Interesting (or I think so, anyway) story about Jimmy Stewart - when he was a struggling young actor in New York, before going to Hollywood, his roommate was the young and almost equally adorable Henry Fonda. (They’d met in summer stock and remained close friends throughout their lives.) Can you imagine living in their apartment building in the early 1930’s? Now where’s that time machine …
