Well, the greatest upset in Oscar history was in 1939 when Stewart won for the Philadelphia story over Fonda in Grapes of Wrath. Stewart was fine, but Tom Joad is iconic.

Both of them leave me cold as far as sex appeal.

Really?
I love Henry Fonda in The Lady Eve with Barbara Stanwyck. Though she made any guy look pretty damned sexy, including Fred MacMurray in Double Indemnity. And I am not at all kidding about that one. :D

Doesn’t the telephone scene in It’s a Wonderful Life, where Donna Reed and Jimmy Stewart are dying to kiss each other, do anything for you?

Nope. Ten characters.

My grandpa reminded me of Jimmy Stewart/Fred Astaire ( with out the dancing/singing), so neither one did much for me in the swoon dept.
;)

Does anyone remember the Australian Brian Brown from “FX”? And also -OK i know he is kind of different looking- but I think Liam Neeson is really good looking. Sean Connery when is older. Gregory Peck and Paul Newman anytime. I used to like Mel Gibson when he was young but like many of you, no more! Kevin Costner in “No Way Out”.

Ditto!!! :)

Once when I was watching It Happened One Night, D happened into the room and sat down. After a bit:

D: Who’s that?
Me: Clark Gable. The handsomest man who ever walked the face of the earth.
[Pause]
D: You might be right.

Your kid has great taste in men.
My kids have seen GWTW a million times. But we all stop whatever we’re doing and are glued to the screen when that first shot of Clark Gable comes down the staircase and he gazes up at Vivien Leigh. Good stuff.

Oh man, you’re not kidding. And the telephone scene in It’s a Wonderful Life – I get it.

Absoutely Coliln Firth as Mr. Darcy.

Alan Rickman in Sense & Sensibility (not all that handsome but such a sexy voice)

Denzel Washington

The actor with whom I was most obsessed in my younger days was Ken Olin, who played Michael Steadman in Thirtysomething…he was so fine that it hurt. (He hasn’t aged that well, unfortunately.) Here’s better times:

When I hear that certain guys (e.g. Viggo) don’t bathe on a regular basis or use deoderant, they are no longer handsome to me.

I still miss Thirtysomething, and wonder occasionally what the characters would be doing now, 20 years later.

I’m sorry to hear about Ken Olin. I seem to recall that a lot of people really liked the actor who played Gary – Peter Horton?

Laurence Olivier was very attractive when he was young.

thirtysomething.… what a great show. I didn’t really love any of the men in it though.

I was more a fan of the women. Particularly the woman who played Michael’s quirky cousin. Memory fails me as to her name.

I really liked the fact that two of the main characters were Jewish. Not common on network prime time TV, then or now. (I always found it odd that in ER, at what was supposed to be a big hospital in Chicago, there were apparently no Jewish doctors. Ever.)

Ladies…Ladies…PLEASE!!!

(This thread is enjoyable)

Donna: That’s Melanie Meyron, who sadly just lost her GF to Jodie Foster.

They get together all the time. I found interviews with the cast now.

I think Ken Olin still looks good, just not like he did.

Timothy Busfield showed up in a great part on The West Wing.

Uh oh, I swim against the tide. I don’t find Clark Gable appealing either.

But I will admit that my first celebrity crush was Richard Chamberlain who was on Dr. Kildare when I was young. I think he was the most beautiful man ever created.

I read his autobiography about coming out, and was surprised that he thought it would be news to people.

He has quite a spiritual dimension but takes himself quite seriously.

Bringing this back to proper CC topics – he attended Pomona.

Donna – back to West Wing everyone is either Jewish, black or Catholic – Sam was the only prominent WASPy character, and he left. Soon the Supreme Court will be like an episode of West Wing.

Boy oh boy, ain’t that the truth! I must have been 7 or 8 when just the sight of him as Dr. Kildare use to make my heart go pitter-patter. Also, James Brolin as Dr. Richard Kiley on Marcus Welby, and Chad Everett as Dr. Joe Gannon on Medical Center—handsome young doctor as god…Boy, they don’t make 'em like that anymore, LOL! Taye Diggs sure does make a tasty chocolate treat of a physician on Private Practice, though:D

When I was little I had such a crush on Christopher Plummer in The Sound of Music". I still think he looks great.

Oh yeah- and what about Ewan McGregor???

Ewan McGregor. Now there’s my D’s crush. I merely place him in the cute category.
