Most Mind Numbingly AP Classes Rating

Hey! I’m a senior right now and some of the AP classes I’ve taken thus far have really got me engaged that actually made me look forward to going to class. But then there are some that make me want to stab myself from boredom - metaphorically speaking of course. Here is a list of mine with my rating and critique.

1.) AP European History (Bang your head against the table boring)
-I only took this class as a method of boasting the rigor in my schedule for college applications. WORST decision in my life. All we do is write and memorize. I often think to myself why on earth would anyone ever need to know this stuff. A history major maybe but there is a reason history majors aren’t in hot demand in the employment market. My advice is if you have to chose between this and AP Physics C: Mechanics go with the latter; trust me you won’t regret it.

2.) AP American Government (Put a five year old to sleep boring)
-I took this class with such high hopes of learning all the behind-the-scenes conspiracy theories in American politics. Well the way the class is structured I am technically learning that but in a elementary way via color books and crossword puzzles; yes you heard me right kindergarden work in a collegiate level class.

3.) AP Spanish Language and Culture (You want terrorist to bomb you and put you out of your misery boring)
-I’ve always been naturally gifted at spanish and took this course with the aspirations of one day being able to become a fluent speaker. The stuff we are learning in there would be equivalent to what first graders are learning in a spanish speaking country like what is a noun or what are the three types of endings for verbs.

4.) AP Biology (Wake me up from this nightmare boring)
-The most important thing I took from this class is I don’t want to be a biologist anymore - to say the least. Not only was the teacher uneducated in the subject the material we were learning was way too theoretical and didn’t have enough math involved besides the occasional chi-square test. If you have hopes of being a biologist one day don’t take this class as it will make you realize how great physicist and chemist have it.

These are my most boring classes in order. Everyone else feel free to post yours using the above format and don’t be afraid to let it all out. IB and dual enrollment students are also welcomed.

I agree with number 2!!!

I actually enjoyed every ap class I ever took. Except english maybe, that kinda sucked.
But maybe I’m crazy

OP:

I can’t speak for the rest of the list, but I found my AP Gov to be one of the best I took.

I think it really depends on the teacher. My teacher was a guy who taught at a nearby private university, so he structured his AP class in the way a college professor would. This made it fun and difficult.

From what I gather, it seems your teacher has a…less than ideal method of teaching that class, if you want to “die of boredom” in that class.

OP, introductory biology IS meant to be really theoretical. You get to the fun stuff later. If you really want to be a biologist, though, that shouldn’t deter you.

And I agree with @NotYetEngineer‌ for most of these, you can only blame your teacher.

I’ve only taken APHG, AP Chem, AP Lang, and APWH so far. (The last three are currently in progress.) They’re all pretty interesting. I guess I haven’t gotten to the bad ones yet. If I were to rate them on interestingness:

  1. APHG, AP Lang
  2. AP World History
  3. AP Chem

But AP Chemistry isn’t even boring.

-Definitely APUSH. I mean at least AP World had some interesting stuff since the whole world was involved. APUSH is sooo tedious, like who freaking cares what Roosevelt’s cousin’s dog’s name was, jesus christ.

-AP Chem isn’t boring, but it’s pretty difficult for me, so that was a huge letdown. It’s a huge step-up from Honors Chem… stressful stuff.

I’m taking APEH right now, and I have mixed feelings about it. I love the teacher, my classmates are awesome, and I like doing projects and group discussions. But there’s so much work to do in that class! I’m so bogged down with the homework that I have no time to study for tests, and I’m just super stressed out. I like learning about history, but I don’t like memorizing it. I’m worried that I’ll fail the AP exam in May.

On the bright side, my small group in APEH is doing a puppet show as a project, and we’re making it a musical because we get extra credit if we do so! Frozen parodies, here I come!

But I can’t work on the puppet show stuff right now because I have history essays to do. Ughhhhhh

AP Bio is so true omg

I nominate AP Econ. It’s like a whole course where they teach you stuff everyone knows like “When the price goes down, people buy more!” and “Taxes go to the government!” Even the tests are boring. My last one was like, 60 multiple choice questions on calculating taxes.

APUSH at my school is offered to say more students than it should be (40% of my class, at a subpar public HS), which makes it really boring. It’s just a whole bunch of busywork and the teacher giving a pep talk every day about how “this is supposed to be difficult”.

AP Physics 1 is also quite stupid. The pace we go at is mind-numbingly slow. I don’t get how people aren’t able to understand the material - it’s just plugging things into equations!..

OP, I had a better experience with AP Biology, though I got a 3.

My Mind-numbing AP Classes:

  1. AP Chemistry - I think I might pass, but it isn’t an easy class. (That rhymes.)
  2. AP Computer Science - I’m taking it online and I’m so behind. I feel like if I had more time, I would be able to learn the material properly, but I think I’m going to drop second semester.
  3. AP Human Geography - In my defense, I was a stupid freshman. It was my first AP class and the teacher was terrifying. I hadn’t tried nearly as hard as I should have. I got a B the whole year and a 3.
