Most overrated/underrated colleges in the nation

Underrated: LACs, a school that is really good in your major even if the overall school isn’t spectacular, non-flagship state schools, etc.
Overrated: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Duke, UCLA, USC, U of Miami, Penn

Gee, wouldn’t happen to be a maize and blue grad would you by any chance … ?

I think that many all-women’s colleges are underrated, at least to the general public. I think to those in the know, Wellesley and Smith are right on par (perhaps Smith is a bit underrated) while MoHo and Bryn Mawr are VASTLY underrated imo. What people don’t understand is that because all-women’s schools already have a self-selected pool of applicants, they’re going to have higher acceptance rates than other schools that provide the same or less quality of education.

Also, I believe that most religious schools are underrated, especially BYU. People need to stop equating Christianity with anti-intellectualism.

I think area can also affect how people perceive a school. For example, on the East Coast people tend to underrate Pomona and the rest of the Claremont Consortium, as well as other schools on the West Coast and the Mid-West.

I can’t really say any schools are overrated because I don’t have any experience in that regard. However, I do think that the idea that just because you go to an Ivy you will automatically receive a great education is completely inaccurate. Your education is what you make it.

Also a lot of people have been calling UChicago underrated. I think that it’s actually quite well-reguarded now and it has become more well-known as an amazing university. Their 40% increase in EA applicants illustrates that :P

Overrated: Notre Dame

Underrated: Tufts
