We checked with our insurer after S was rejected by endurance online for med insurance. They said since he had no gaps in coverage and he had always had some form of BCBS coverage, they would offer him a $300/month (or so) policy with no lifetime maximum. It wasn’t as good as H’s policy but was decent as a stopgap while we waited for him to be covered under H’s policy again in Jan. my mom didn’t understand why we purchased it, but I told her it was so H and I could sleep at night!

Moral–ask your insurer what options are available to continue your kid’s coverage. Ours wasn’t cobra, but I think similar tho cheaper.

EK4- my DH finally went ahead with the total knee replacement about 3 years ago now.
It turned out to be the right choice for him. Sending good wishes for you to have the same.

One of my kids can stay on my health insurance policy forever. That doesn’t mean it’s free.

Our DD luckily can also stay on my insurance ‘forever’. Feel fortunate that it is an option for her/us but it does mean I pay family rather than cheaper husband/wife ‘forever’.
NOt sure if she can remain on if/when I retire with company retiree health benefits.
I doubt we will be satisfied with her being on Medicaid alone.

Another thank you to Obamacare from our family. DS was able to be covered on my plan (after being kicked off at 22) for his two years in grad school. That gave him enough time to find his own coverage through his own job before age 26.
It is a blessing for so many families.
