For fall 2011, the top courses for new freshmen were:

Chemistry 1A: 785
Chemistry 1AL: 776
Math 1A: 613
Math 16A: 546
Math 53: 313
Nutritional Science 10: 301
PE 11: 284
PE 12: 270
Math 1B: 263
English R1A: 216

Note: PE 11 is “variety of intercollegiate sports for men”, and PE 12 is “variety of intercollegiate sports for women”, both listed as “two hours of laboratory per week”. That means that 554 (12.5%) of the 4443 new freshmen are athletes.

It is interesting that Math 53 is more popular than Math 1B, since a 5 on AP Calculus BC (that allows taking Math 53) probably does not outnumber all other 3 or higher AP Calculus AB/BC scores (that allow taking Math 1B).

For the 2335 new transfers, the most popular courses were:

Education 198: 445
English 198: 113
Political Science 179: 89
Political Science 3: 86
Education 197: 74
Economics 100A: 74
Statistics 21: 72
Sociology 5: 69
UGBA 102A: 68
Engineering 7: 65
