Most Prestigious?? BC, Vandy or Vassar?

Just curious. Son was accepted at all three. Not the primary reason for choosing but I am curious as to other’s opinions if you’ll take the time to share and any reasons for why you feel that way.

Vassar (to me) has more name brand recognition, if you are looking at prestige.

I think BC might have more “name recognition,” but I think among academic and professional circles, Vassar is much more respected.

And I would think that Vanderbilt has more recognition, which may or may not be considered “prestige.”

Vanderbilt is the Harvard of the South, enough said.

It depends where you live, I believe… as a New Englander (esp because I live in MA, I guess), BC is more well-known than either Vassar or Vandy.

[Prestige and name recognition aren’t the same.](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showpost.php?p=1974422)

I’d say Vassar, but there’s not much difference. You have successful and unsuccessful graduates of all of them. The French teacher at my mediocre high school was the valedictorian of Vassar 30 or so years ago. (For the record I consider that career path successful, although some wouldn’t.)

Vanderbilt

vanderbilt

vassar. duke is the harvard of the south, not vandy.

Definitely Vassar.

definately vanderbilt! Vassar is a LAC, which aren’t good schools at all!

This is a pointless question…prestige…well, is so arbitrary…and if that is a reason to pick a school- what about majors, location, size, and a plethora of other areas, prestige, well, seems a bit of an odd way to make a decision

you can have a mediocre kid at a “presitigous” school go nowhere, and an amzing kid at a “less presitigous” school do amazing things

and paulf, in what manner are LAC not good schools…what on odd coment

^Cuz they are not as well know as harvard, yale, princeton…

so, by your logic paul, if something is not as well known, it is not good? how does that work, exactlly

I know some very fine organizations that aren’t super well know, and some very well know ones that are awful

if being well known is how you judge how good something is, strange criteria

Vanderbilt is a rising star, and Vassar is a sinking ship. But I’d argue Vanderbilt has always been more prestigous than Vassar.

Vanderbilt (I’m biased though).

I turned down Ivies (Penn/Cornell) to go to Vandy; I wouldn’t have turned down Ivies for Vassar.

Definitely BC - although I’d say Vandy’s a close second. Many many people have never even heard of Vassar

Yes… Harvard is more famous than university of alabama, and is also much better… Theres a reason why things/people are famous

No one should ever listen to anything paul says.
