Most social freshman dorms

With housing applications now available to accepted ED applicants, I’m stuck wondering which residence halls have the most social students who are most willing to party. I’ve narrowed down my top choice to 3rd North or Hayden, as I’ve heard those are the two most social. Picking the top choice from these two, however, is more difficult.

Some say 3N is the most social and best for parties due to the big apartment space (as explained in [Guide to NYU Dorms 2011: Third North · NYU Local](<a href=“NYU Local”>Guide to NYU Dorms 2011: Third North | by NYU Local | NYU Local)). But others point out that the bigger apartment space eliminates the need to socialize in halls and hop from room to room, as students feel they have everything they need in their own apartment. Hayden, on the other hand, seems to have held a reputation as NYU’s freshman animal house for some time.

Which would you say has the most rowdy/party-going crowd? Any input is greatly appreciated.

No real way to answer this. It’s never the case that all the “party” kids end up in one dorm. First years are always looking to make friends…including Third North kids (no matter how big their apartments are). Hayden somehow has the reputation for being a big party dorm but honestly…I don’t think anyone knows why (except Hayden kids who love living in Hayden…but most people love their first year dorm so…take that with a grain of salt).

Don’t pick a dorm on where you think the best crowd is. Pick a dorm you think you’ll be most comfortable in. You’ll find your party people no matter what.

just my opinion…I agree with collconfalumna that you “Pick a dorm you think you’ll be most comfortable in. You’ll find your party people no matter what.”

My child is in the Class 2016 and lives in Hayden, I’ve been there personally to see the dorm in Fall2012, and I was very concerned about the “rumor” that Hayden is a party dorm.
There’s no such thing! Call me naive that I don’t really know but when we parents had a first meeting with the resident director he assured us that it’s studies first and party later.
If you decide to live in Hayden, you will still manage to meet other freshmen who lives in other dorms, that’s how you socialise I think.
As a freshman, you’re there to enjoy your first year in college, it will be overwhelming for you but bear in mind as well that you went there to study (considering that NYU is very expensive, and that you’re one of the luckiest kid to have that chance).
As a concerned mom I can now say that wherever dorm you will live in, there will always be parties and fun, it all depends on the people you hang around with.
Just don’t forget that you didn’t get in there to party, I told my student “study hard, then play hard later”, and I’m proud to say that inspite of the overwhelming experience in their first semester, my student still manage to reach the required GPA.
I wish you all the best in the Fall 2013.
