Most Versatile Major

What do you think the most versatile business major is?

If econ is a business major, then econ.

Finance and if econ is considerable , then econ also.

If econ is more versatile than other business majors, what are other business majors better at (ie job placement?)

I honestly think accounting is up there too… only because of the knowledge you gain from it. An accounting major can be an accountant, financial manager, banker, CPA, auditor, IS professional, entreprenuer, CFO, etc. etc. etc. Learning “the language of business” is VERY adaptable, and overlooked, obviously.

A finance major can be a banker or a consultant. Why waste time with the rest?

^I agree, finance takes the cake.

Accounting major can be a banker, or consultant as well, in fact a CPA is a great certification for consulting.

accounting

As I said before, the chances of Accounting majors becoming bankers are very slim and most of the time none, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t major in it, but finance can give you the broadest job oppurtunity possible in the business world.

Pre-medwannabe, you are too narrow minded here… thus not answering the question… plenty of Accounting majors are bankers (I think you have somehow limited your understanding of “banker” to mean investment banker or something).

What matters more is that you come from a recruited school (top 25 roughly). Even underwater basketweaving majors have a better shot at getting a cushy banking position than a finance major from a non recruited school. Its an elitist industry.

What about just a regional ibank?

Yes accountants can be Bankers or ibankers, but generally they are very rare. Just look at the websites of Ibanks where they post a little biography about their analyst and people that work there in general, almsot none of them had any accounting majors. Just check out the goldman sachs website and other BB’s and top 50 ibanks in general. You have much higher chance with a marketing major and an even higher chance with an finance/econ major, I am just being realistic here not narrow minded.
