@Consolation I like those dresses above. Have you bought from stylewe before? I like their unique styles and the prices seem incredibly affordable.
@doschicos No, I haven’t even seen the site before. It seems too good to be true!
My dd bought her prom dress online shipped from Shanghai - it was incredibly detailed, beaded, and would’ve cost a ton more if sold here. But it is a crapshoot like everything else online, buyer beware and check that return policy (and who pays shipping especially!!)
I just ordered a top from Stylewe - my first time. I am curious to see the outcome and will post back.
As promised, I am posting back ref Stylewe; the top I ordered arrived…via DHL from Singapore no less. Love the top, well made and exactly as pictured. I ordered it on the 10th, was shipped on 14th and arrived on 18th. Of course I am now going back online to see what else I “need”. I did pay for it via paypal because I was concerned whether or not they were legit.

I really don’t want to belabor the petite point, but honest, it makes a difference all over. I’m not just a little short, I’m 5 foot nothing. A year or two ago I bought a Chaps wrap dress for a friends wedding. I thought it looked pretty good. Later in the season, I saw the same dress in a different color, on sale and in petites. I bought it and realized immediately that it fit so much better. The dress was a good three inches shorter, which meant it hit at mid knee instead of mid-calf. The neckline didn’t gap, something I hadn’t even noticed until I had the two to compare. The sleeves were 3/4 instead of almost to my wrist. The distance from the shoulder to the waist was the same, but that was about it.It’s frustrating looking at all of these pretty dresses and realize that they are not going to fit right. grumble, grumble.
@walkinghome, as one short person to another, I couldn’t agree more.
We’re vertically challenged, not short.
Someone used the phrase “fun sized” (like fun size candy bars) which I decided to take as a compliment!
I found this dress I like on-line. What do you think? http://www.jcpenney.com/rm-richards-34-sleeve-lace-top-asymmetric-hem-jacket-dress-petite/prod.jump?ppId=pp5006650461&searchTerm=petite+dress&catId=SearchResults&_dyncharset=UTF-8&colorizedImg=DP0209201617042260M.TIF
If you have a store convenient to you to make a return if it doesn’t work, I might give it a try. It does look a bit long in the model tho. I like dresses to hit at or slightly above the knee. This one looks like it is quite a bit longer, and since models are generally tall, would probably be halfway between my knees and ankles, which is not a length I like.
@walkinghome - my kids call me ‘fun sized’. Makes me laugh. I’m the shortest and smallest all around in my family.
To the OP, my daughter is getting married this year also. Her bridesmaids will be wearing black dreses (to the knee rather than long dresses) and I will also be wearing a short black dress. My daughter had no issue with it and there is no way that I will be confused for a bridesmaid. Let’s be honest here - I’ve got a good three decades on the bridesmaids!!
I like the length of this one more, but not the color. http://www.jcpenney.com/rm-richards-34-sleeve-sequined-lace-jacket-dress-petite/prod.jump?ppId=pp5005420204&N=1402&Nao=48&pN=3&searchTerm=petite+dress&N=1402&catId=SearchResults&_dyncharset=UTF-8 Navy blue doesn’t look good on me.
Yes–better length on the model, but remember that many/most models are 5’10"-6’, so the dress will likely be longer on folks who are shorter.
Both dresses are petites. It would make sense that they use petite size models. And your point is exactly why I don’t buy dresses any more that are not petite.
Ok, sorry I missed the sizing. I’m at the border of whether I’m petite at 5’ 5.5".
I see that the first Penney dress states this in the description:
dress: 38½" length from shoulder
jacket: 15¾" length from shoulder
Invest in a tape measure. It helps online shopping tremendously.
I think Macy’s has great stuff with great prices and excellent sales. I didn’t read all the posts, but this is so elegant with black and white and flowers could be a fabulous accent.
