Mother's Day - what are you all doing?

Congratulations to all the graduations, you have done good.

Before we moved, I was the only sibling who lived close to my parents, and I always had to share mother’s day with my mother. Last year was the first year I wasn’t with my mom, she sounded very sad on the phone. Since we are going to be around the NY area this year, I think I am going to make a point of seeing her. Maybe I will surprise her.

Graduation as well. Nice that we will be able to be together with your children and the grandparents.

Ugh we are getting up at 5am to go to a horse show. I am fairly certain my husband will yet again suddenly realize you cant waltz into a restaurant on Mothers Day without a reservation by breakfasttime and we will end up with pizza delivery

DS is arriving home for the summer! I will celebrate Mother’s Day by making him asparagus lasagna from our garden.

My yearly request is almost always to not have to cook, to have the day to work at my leisure gardening and to take a family walk (whoever is around!) at a local park. Of course, much of this is reliant on a nice weather day, but it seems the weather usually cooperates!

Also going to a college graduation. Our oldest. I can’t think of a better way to spend the day. This is me: :D

Grades for all the college classes I teach are due May 14. I will be finishing up reading the mountain of portfolios that will be turned in next week. I will strive to get a walk on the beach in. (in other words, it will be like any usual Sunday. Which is fine :).)

Edit: congrats to all the grads!!!

Hey dmd … I am going to a dog agility trial also!

My baby dog finished her Novice JWW last weekend, so we’ll be debuting in Open JWW and looking for two more legs in Novice Standard.

It’s so great to be back in agility – I was retired for ten years while I got my store under control. I love being out at a trial, watching the dogs, running my dog, hanging with friends, working in the ring …

My mother died a month ago but Mother’s Day will not be fraught-- she thought it was ridiculous and never missed an occasion to say so. I will never be able to celebrate Mother’s Day without feeling silly.

I’ll see both kids a week later at S2’s graduation. On Mother’s Day, I’ll visit my mother who’s in a nursing home. DH will make a nice dinner for me (he’s a good cook). We’ve given up on eating out after enough 45-60 minute waits at restaurants even with reservations.

My kids always made Mothers Day special for me. This will be the second time neither one will be here. My husband will take me out to breakfast to my favorite place…and he usually gets me some sort of plant. Hoping for an Endless Summer Hydrangea!

My mum will be recovering from surgery. Dad will be doing the same thing he does every year-getting the garden ready for my mom’s plants. I’ll be working :(. My mom usually sends me a card from the dog because she’s my baby. I’ll probably send my mom flowers. We don’t really celebrate. It’s very close to my mom’s mom’s birthday who passed away almost two decades ago but she still never really recovered from it. Plus my parents aren’t really sentimental people.

Probably my 3 untrained children won’t do much of anything and S1’s gf will come through. This appears to be an unfortunate pattern. I had a panic attack when I thought it was this weekend (cause, ummm, I can’t figure out what to get my own mom  and I was pretty excited it was a week away. Not that I’ll be much more prepared by then…

I love Mom’s Day ,because I can get my H and 2 available kids to do something I want . This year it will be some yard work ,followed by a 3 o’clock meal . 3 is a good time to eat out on Mom’s Day .

I will run a 5K race. S will be in China, D will be at weekend retreat, and I will draft H to hold my phone and to holler when we come in. I will run with my friend who I have known for 29 years. (Before we were moms.) The race is called: “Run like a Mother”.

So sorry, wellspring.

Mothers/fathers day are always right at my kids’ birthdays. And this year we have a graduation a week after mothers day. So while neither s is home, my DH will do something (usually breakfast in bed). Thats fine.

Just heard from D1, she is arranging a mother’s day brunch, just wondering if she would be paying.

it should be interesting h hasnt been hitting any home runs lately…

My DH is taking my mom, my MIL, my Dd and me to lunch at a lovely oceanfront resort on Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day. We’ve done the Mother’s Day brunch thing for many years, but this year both elderly moms are not in great health. Waiting around for a table on that busy Sunday with the kinds of crowds we get here at the nice places is really not fun for them anymore. I’d be happy to cook at home, but they live over an hour away, and it’s hard for them to make the drive. So this year, we’re going south where they are, and celebrating the day before.

On Mother’s Day itself, I’ll probably be relaxing at home and taking a long walk with my Dh and my Lab.

babyfrog will be home from college…but on Mother’s Day will be 2 days post major clavicle reconstruction, so I have a feeling I’ll be 2 days into post major clavicle surgery nurse mom duties.
