What are some things your kids have done for the famous Mother’s day?

My kids ignore it.
I bought a card for them to give to their mom. I even bought a card this year for the dog to give to her mom. It is pretty funny. The dog says: “This year I decided to make your gift”…“It’s out in the yard”

LOL :)

Well, mine knew that this coming Sunday she’d be spending on one of her four papers or studying for one of her four finals and she’d be too busy so…she surprised me by coming home last weekend just to hang out with me! I love my little girl! (Sorry fendergirl, my kids will always be my little girl and my little boy!)

fendergirl~

Being a musical sort of person, you will probably appreciate what my kids did for me last year!!

I love Rod Stewart, and I’ve gotten all of my kids hooked on him too. Last Mother’s Day, my kids got me two Rod Stewart Greatist Hits CDs. I loved them! My oldest daughter kept insisting that I open them up immediately. I told her that I would in a bit, but she was so insistent that I finally relented, albeit with some puzzlement as to why the rush.

When I opened the first one, some small pieces of paper fell out. I glanced down, and OMG, I couldn’t believe me eyes!! TWO FRONT ROW TICKETS to his upcoming local CONCERT!!! Now, first you have to realize how bizarre it is that Rod Stewart would even COME to this town, so it was a REALLY HUGE deal. Secondly, I hadn’t been to a concert since I was in undergrad school at Miami, where I saw Bruce Springsteen with my bf and some other college friends. That was the last time I had been to a concert!

My kids had gone in on these tickets with their dad, who accompanied me to the concert.

More than the memory of Rod Stewart, I hold in my heart the love and thoughtfulness of my kids who wanted to do something really, really special for me! Now, my oldest daughter has the CDs in her bedroom where SHE listens to Rod Stewart all the time! :)

Rod Stewart is great :)

About two months ago I was out shopping for some stuff, and I saw these really cute grey shorts that said PHILLIES on the butt, and a really cute pink shirt that said PHILLIES on the front. So I bought them for my mom. She’s a huge Phillies fan. Next time I went home, I gave them to her, and she was like what’s this for. I said, early mothers day. haha. I also have a flower to give her for the actual mothers day.

Last year was really awful. My mom had bought me this really ugly shirt for Easter. I don’t know what she was thinking, and honestly I don’t think she did either. When I opened it she was like I knew you weren’t going to like this, but I thought it was cute. So I gave it back to her as part of her mother’s day gift. Still had the tags on it and everything. She thought it was really funny.

For christmas this year, my sister and i bought my mom a digital camera. we were so sneaky about it, and she had no clue that’s what she was getting. Then while I was away at school our rebate check came in the mail for it, in postcard format. so it says in big letters REBATE FOR HP DIGITAL CAMERA… and of course my mom got the mail that day. i wasn’t very happy… it completely ruined the suprise! my dad got her a camera bag and a memory card and an accessory kit and rechargable batteries and whatnot too… she was suprised by all that though. :)

lolololol fendergirl!! That is something that would definitely happen to ME! I have a question…may I please adopt you as my fourth daughter??? You are SO sweet and thoughtful!! I am a picture FREAK! I LOVE my digital camera!! Your mom must have been so thrilled with that coolest of cool gifts! ~b.

I was pretty much in tears yesterday when my son came in with 1/2 dozen red roses, delivered before the weekend as his class is now on a Senior Trip. He got the idea from the son of one of his teachers, so refused to claim he’d thought of it himself, and I was so moved. I have gotten cards every year, but never flowers. Still am in disbelief. (Now if I could just find some tickets to Rod Stewart hidden in there!!
Wow Berurah!!!)

momofthree~
Awwwwwwwwwwww, sniff, what a fabulous son you have there!! I am so happy for you that he remembered his wonderful mom in such a lovely and caring way!! Be sure to stop and smell those roses!!!

The best gift I can get will be that I get to see my S on Sunday! He will be home from his first year of college. His last final is tomorrow night. (I haven’t seen him since Christmas break.)

1sokkermom~
Now THAT’S what I call a GIFT!!! How wonderful! ~berurah

Mother’s Day ranks up there with Valentine’s Day as the biggest money dump on guys. My family was never that big on holidays anyways, for one: we all live really close so we see each other 4-5 times a week and for two: if you show love all year round, no need to spend beacoup bucks on one day. That being said, I will probably at least go to mass with mom and chip in on the pizza for lunch. (Mother’s day is the absolute worst day to go out to eat because of the long wait at restuarants.)

beu,

it’s actually really funny. my mom used to call me and ask me to bring home my digital camera so she could take a picture of something. so i got tired of that and bought her a digital camera. now i hear she’s barely used it. I’m hoping it will be worth the money in the long run :)

the best mother’s day I ever had was also my first…my D was born on it and it was also was my 31st birthday!
this year will be fairly quiet but 4 days later that D will graduate from college…and it will also be on my birthday( but my 53rd…yikes)! How great is that!!!

Cathy,

That is FABULOUS!!! Congratulations and an early Happy Birthday!

hee hee! I’m sure it WILL be worth the money in the long run, fendergirl. Maybe she doesn’t use it as much because YOU are away at school, and she doesn’t have anything as wonderful to photograph! lol I’m sure she will begin using it soon, and regardless, the absolutely beautiful thought was certainly there. ~b.

wow cathee–
Thats pretty great! My family all seem to have holiday birthdays (except for me-- I am one week away from a holiday). My sons’s bdays hit either mothers or fathers day (bdays are early May and mid June) and my h’s is on xmas. So holidays and birthdays are a bit of a blur… And for reasons too long to explain here, Memorial day weekend has become, for 6 of the last 7 years, family events (though this one’s will be sad, dealing with the belated 1st anniversary of my mom’s passing and an event that occurs at the cemetery). So, this years mothers day is a mixed feeling— My h. left yesterday to take care of his dad, but will be home for a late mothers day dinner. Younger s’s bday is the next day. So, I bought roses for the house today, and s’s bday present. When I picked him up, he offered to take me out to dinner, and commented that he’d planned to walk up to the shopping center to buy flowers tomorrow (sooo sweet) but then said he’d be embarassed to walk home with them
). I am excited that older s. will be home from college sometime towards the end of the week. I am, like sokkermom, anxious, but I did have the opportunity to see him over spring break. He’ll be home for all of 2 weeks, and is then off to a summer camp job 4 hours away. Bigger bummer-- no email!!! I will miss IM’ing him!! That will be harder to deal with!

I have not read too many threads these past few weeks, so have apparently missed whatever the big bruhaha is all about. Whatever it is/was, let me say that I wish you all a very happy Mothers day, and here’s hoping things continue on a positive thread (pun intended!)

edit NJRES-- LOVE your dog card!! My kind of humor!! :)

When S was about 8 years old, he came into the house on his roller blades and sheepishly said he had something “really bad” to tell me.

He had been rollerblading in the garage. Who knows why? (we only had a 200’ driveway!). He had broken the headlamp on my car.

Now, if he had not mentioned it, I probably wouldn’t have noticed it for days. Would have assumed it happened in some parking lot. I was so proud of him coming in to tell me the truth about something he felt he had done wrong, and taking responsibility. It was the best mother’s day gift he could have given me, and the one I always remember when asked what my favorite gift has been.

THAT IS THE GREATEST!!! What a cool first mother’s day gift…there is no better! And congrats on your daughter’s graduation~what a fabulous accomplishment! ~berurah

LOL, You just reminded me that most of my family has some sort of natural disaster/infamous date birthdays…
My birthday was the day Mt St Helens blew up in 1980
Our oldest son’s birthday was the first day of the (first) Iraqi war
My dad’s birthday was the invasion of Normandy
Another son’s birthday was the day of one of the major CA earthquakes (in the past 15 years…don’t recall which one)

Sorry; now back to regularly scheduled thread :)

DrDrewsmom-
Whoa-- Please tell us when your families birthdays are so we can all put on hard hats and sit in a bomb shelter :D
