Mountain Biking in Davis

Anyone an avid mountain biker? I got accepted into UCSB and UCD. In terms of mountain biking, UCSB has tons of stuff, where I’ve been told UCD has almost none. I know it’s roadie heaven, but I tend to lay on the mountain/dirt spectrum.

The one thing that has me considering UCD is because it’s only 2 hrs away from home. Where as, UCSB is 5+ hrs. Being in a relationship, and having pets and family that I adore have me wanting to come home often.

As we all know, this cycling shouldn’t be my main focus point, but I know that if I’m in an area where I’m not happy, I won’t succeed.

Any suggestions? I know it has me closer to Downieville and Auburn, which is definitely a plus, but I ride (and hope to when @ UCD) as often as I could after work/school… 4-5 days a week. I’d be wasting a lot of gas/time driving to these places. Anything within close proximity?

I’m wondering the same thing! Not just mountain biking, but also hiking and outdoors activities in general. I know Davis itself is pretty flat… how far would you have to drive to find a good spot?

I’ve been told 1hr+ to drive to places like Auburn… Which isn’t horrible… but eh.

Auburn can’t be more than an hour away.

Lake Berryessa is also rather close to Davis (drive out on Covell through Winters and keep going) and there are some good trails there.
