Move In Stuff Allowed? and Trojan Hall

Would I be allowed to bring a portable fan or portable air conditioner to the dorms when I move in on August 19 (move in day)?

Also, how is Trojan Hall? Is it a hall to avoid or is it ok?

I know people who brought fans but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with an AC.

Fans are fine, but no - you can’t bring an air conditioner. From page 21 of the housing brochure:

https://housing.usc.edu/forms/FrshLvnBk_09-10.pdf

As I read the policy, portable AC units (evaporative coolers) would probably be fine. They do not need to be installed in the wall or a window. But they are rather bulky. A fan should be good enough.

The AC thing must be new. My DS and roomate put one in their window at North 5 years ago and were the envy of the floor. The rules might have been revised the next year because of it. Fans are a must, because it is really pretty warm during the day for the first month. A portable refrigerating AC would work great, with a little effort put into interfacing the exhaust hose with the window (duct tape and foamboard). After the end of September, the interface could be taken down and the cooler put in the closet for the rest of the year.

How is Trojan Hall? Is it ok? Is it really quiet?

Also, how are Fluor, Parkside, and the Radisson? Are they noisy?

Fluor, parkside, and the radisson are known to be quiet, less social dorms, although you can certainly be social if you choose to do so.

I have no firsthand experience, but my friend said Trojan Hall is not that great.

i had a fun time at parkside.

Trojan Hall isn’t too quiet. It is certainly the louder of the Deans’ Halls. They are doing some work on the hall this summer, so it should be much nicer next year. It’s right next to Ground Zero, which is fun socially, especially if you like to hear local bands or improv groups, or if you enjoy milkshakes!

haha. i lived all the way on the other side of campus and i enjoyed those milkshakes a little too often.
