Stugace, correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re a teenage boy, right? And were you commenting on dragonmom’s post? You might want to reread it.
He must have gone to school in one of those states where they don’t learn about such things
or just blocked out the “female details” as an unconscious self-defense mechanism.
Romani was younger than stugace when she joined us.
Yes, LasMa. You just proved the point!
Stugace, a woman can’t just " hold in " her period.
Stugace,
BTW, If your girlfriend tells you Aunt Flo is visiting, that does not mean some nice little old lady will be treating the 2 of you to a nice dinner.
Just thought a little more education about this womens’ stuff might be helpful.
Just moved D into her dorm and all went according to plan. So much depends on the school’s end. The college provided measurements in advance, and had a webpage for each dorm, with photos and a floor plan. D’s dorm room was really clean, there was great parking close by, and there were lots of students to help carry things in. The cleaning person stopped by to introduce herself, which was really nice, and explained which day they come and what they do (or don’t do).
The car was packed like a Jenga puzzle. I had to persuade the college guys to let me pull items out so it wouldn’t all crash down, yet I had to unpack quickly enough to keep them coming back! Scissors, a pen knife, and a few paper shopping bags with D’s initials on them (for putting in small extraneous items from the car), all came in handy.
D took control of organizing her part of the room (roommate was already largely in). Her mom and I took orders, or tried to stay out of the way. The hardest part was getting her back outside once I had her bike put back together, for her to choose a spot on the rack and lock it up. After about 10 minutes she was back to decorating inside.
During our drive back home we received photos of the finished product. Very nicely done, and a great sense of accomplishment for her. Even Martha Stewart would have approved!
I have been packing and repacking to get the bags to make weight. I’m hoping they go. D is driving us and will help us to schlep to the counter so I can hand some things off to her if necessary. I need major vibes for this operation. It’s going to suck. until we get there. He has instruments that he has to take so there will be a lot of hauling.
Waving goodbye . . . I’ll see you all on the flip side. :-bd
Happy trails!
Sending good vibes @saintfan!!!
Cleaning person? Really??
Well . . . the plan was to be out the door by 4am and we made it at 4:45. I kept telling myself that strangling the boy in the TSA line would be non-productive. We please and begged our way to the front and pulled the full OJ through the airport routine sprinting full bore to our gate. We made it with 3 minutes to spare! I usually fly Alaska and forgot that with the free bags SW has long lines to check. But . . . we made it on the first leg and our now chilling in Phoenix waiting for our connection. He brought me a yummy Starbucks hot egg, bacon and gouda biscuit sandwich as a surprise so all is forgiven. I used up all my blood sugar reserves on that sprint - I went totally anaerobic. This is why we work out!
Safe travels to you, your kiddo, and the checked bags, Saintfan!
@thumper - The janitorial staff cleans and restocks the suite bathrooms weekly on a designated day and time.
@thumper1 Yep, the person who cleans the bathroom once a week. I think most colleges have this. I can’t imagine what the bathrooms would look like without it! X_X
Oh…the common bathroom! Yes! But if your kid moves to a suite…check. Where my kids went…in suites, the students were responsible for cleaning the bathrooms.
The reality for us has been that the process is quick and the move in volunteers are great at unloading your car and getting the stuff into the room. But every time we move a kid in the weather is super humid and we sweat like pigs in those little rooms putting everything away. 3rd child went away to school last week and he has AIR CONDITIONING in his room! Relaxing and enjoyable move in process!!!
The perfect day! Our bags DID make it on the plane and the pick up, rental car, VRBO and dinner went perfectly. Best place ever to stay and best dinner ever. The day has been redeemed! There is a great rain storm tonight too, which is atmospheric. I love a good storm. I am just out of a soaky tub and getting ready to read my book
Just moved daughter from her summer sublet to her apartment for the school year, which also involved picking up things from her rented summer storage unit.
The plan: dreaded loading van, finding parking space in city, and unloading
The reality: daughter made loading van at storage unit very easy by going there ahead of time and moving all tubs to front of storage for easy access. Since the two apartments were 2 blocks apart, we just rolled the cart down the street, eliminating the loading and unloading of the van. Since daughter was given early move in access, we avoided the crazy traffic that accompanies regular move in. Daughter unpacked bedroom, husband took care of bathroom, I did the kitchen.
It was the easiest move we have ever experienced!
