University of Gothenberg

My daughter will be studying at the Univ. of Gothenberg for a full school year beginning this August. Can anyone provide any tips and such on what she may expect? She is ready to go but I am a nervous wreck. Things I am concerned about are banking, illness, the typical parent stuff. Also any thoughts on the weather and darkness. Obviously we can go to the internet and read about the tmep but I wondered if anyone had any inside info. Thanks.

I don’t think there’s anything particularly scary about Sweden! She’ll be fine.

My d did a study abroad in Australia for 6 months plus a several week study tour of Asia.
I can relate to your concerns! While I can’t offer ANY insight into the particular school/city you’re inquiring about, I can make one suggestion that made a big difference for me in terms of peace of mind. SKYPE.

Make sure you put that software on your daughter’s computer and yours. (I just heard it’s an app on the iphone now too). Get a webcam too. We were able to communicate frequently, cheaply (ie, free!), and it would have been priceless to be able to SEE her when we talked. (I just never got around to hooking one up! Really stupid on my part).

Anyway, you probably already know this, but I remember that I wasn’t familiar with Skype until I read about it on this forum.

By the way, your daughter WILL be fine and so will you. Especially if you can communicate regularly. I’m telling you, it’s the key…good luck!!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was hoping to find someone on this site who had studied at Gothenberg and could give me the real low down on the university. I’m sure she will have a great time.

ypu might look for a facebook group of kids who are there now (or this past sememster) and have her ask questions or just read their comments.

She needs to be prepared for the lack of sunlight during the winter months. If she is at all affected by SAD, she should be prepared to buy a special light to help her get through those months of sun late to come up and very early to set!
