Movers for small cross country move

MY D is graduating and returning to the West Coast. The good news is (among other things) that her future employer is paying for the move (car and all). Her non-car belongings are largely clothes, books, a TV, dishes, etc. Little to no furniture. There are a number of companies on the internet that advertise doing “college moves”. Does anyone have any company they can recommend? When she originally went to college we shipped via UPS and have done so on some summer vacations. She now has more stuff and UPS boxes were almost shredded by the time they arrived. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Actually I’ve heard of some people who have used Amtrak to ship stuff cross country. You have to be able to get your stuff to the Amtrak station and have someone there on the other end to pick it up. I think if you go to their website, there’s information about it.

If she’s moving from boston to LA, suggest Michael’s mover. Son used them twice. If I knew her point of origin, I’d give more details.

Point of origin is Ann Arbor, MI.

Is her employer paying the movers directly or does she get a fixed sum? If the movers are paid directly by her employer or she gets reimbursed later, she should just get a full service mover. Read this forum to get a reputable mover.I found it very helpful when I had to coordinate several cross country moves for my kids.

Thanks–we will soon be looking into this to help move S from LA to DC. He will get more details tomorrow when he calls his employer.

If the move does not have to arrive on a particular date, it can be consolidated with other moves going in the same direction and the price will be a lot lower. Your daughter can call any of the national moving companies in her area, and ask about this option. She can even ask more than one company to come look at her stuff, and give her a written estimate of the cost and the delivery time.
