Movie editing “fails”

… had some filming locations that were in southern California: The Graduate | Film Locations

I have a friend that was married in the church in La Verne.

That drove my wife (CS professor) absolutely BONKERS.

Also, the fact that they had to turn off the entire generator to reboot the computer. What sort of computer is connected directly to a generator, and who connects it without a frickin’ surge breaker? That computer would have been fried in the first rainy season, and that was its third year.

On the topic, why the hell would they be splicing FROG DNA to dinosaur DNA? Why not chicken or turkey DNA? Why not crocodilian DNA? Even mice are more closely related to dinosaurs than frogs.

What is worse is that they never needed to add this stupid plot hole. Dinos either had a breeding system like crocodilians or like birds. Sex in crocodilians is determined by temperature, and some crocodilians are parthenogenetic, while some bird species are also parthenogenetic. Since, in birds males are WW and females are WZ, a chick born from parthenogenesis can be male. In fact, that recently happened with California condors . A female had two male chicks without the help of a male, and both chicks were male.

So this stupid impossible plot trick was also superfluous.

If Hollywood weren’t so afraid of scientists, their movies about scientists would not be riddled with stupid plot holes.

One of my favorite is in Cowboys vs Aliens.

The cowboys ride into a box canyon that is in reality located near Las Vegas, NM in northern NM and ride out of that same supposed canyon at the end of the scene from canyon near Socorro, NM in over 200 miles away. (The scenery is completely different. One is rocky and narrow at the mouth; the other is broad and opens onto a grassy plain with trees.)

My daughter who is a climber and has climbed both of the canyons many times was watching the movie with me and she literally fell of the couch she was laughing so hard.

There’s always Tom Hank’s famously improbable boat ride in Sleepless in Seattle.

The 2019 Midway movie trailer showed a CGI scene of the attack on Pearl Harbor at 0:27. But the battleships under attack do not look like the correct ones in the correct docked positions.

Of course, in the 1976 Midway movie trailer, you can see stock footage of ships and aircraft that did not even exist when the battle was fought.

In Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the aircraft carrier Enterprise was played by the Ranger. This can be noticed in the details of the island and elevators, or in the end credits when the special thanks to the crew of the Ranger was given.
