Movie for Valentines Day

Thanks for all the suggestions. I put H in charge of the wine. He’ll pick a red, so it’s steak for dinner. I’ll stope at the movie store on the way home… leaning toward Moonstruck

D just finished reading “Pride and Prejudice”. She had a snow day yesterday, so we watched the movie (Pride and Prejudice, 2005 version). It would be a great Valentine’s Day choice.

Golfing Mom,
Do you have a Williams Sonoma nearby? Probably too late for tonite… but they have a bottled Bordelaise Sauce that is great with a good steak… pan fry the steak and deglaze the pan with the sauce… you can buy filet mignon steak and the sauce for less than the price of dinner out… and it is good stuff… one bottle will do 2-4 steaks for 2 different nites…

There is a funny movie from India: “Bride and Prejudice”. Slightly different take on the classic. Great fabrics in the costuming, and an interesting look at Indian culture.

Sense and Sensibility just resonates with us - not sure why

Also love Desk Set, the oldie with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy

And Notorious - who can resist Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman and Hitchcock?

Saw The Savages this evening. A harrowing film. Not for V-Day.

But received The French Kiss soundtrack. I love the goofy French music.
And the Kevin Kline/Meg Ryan clinch at the end is my nomination for best movie kiss of all time.

And then, there’s always Out of Africa. The hair washing scene alone, but the John Barry soundtrack too. Other romantic moments: looking at Africa from the plane to the swelling sound track and the Mozart Clarinet Concerto on an old victrola on the savanna with the monkeys listening.

And a mention of Truly, Madly, Deeply in which a ghost gets his girl to love again. British and gorgeous cello soundtrack, Bach mostly.

mythmom,

If you liked the film: Out of Africa, then do read the book: West With The Night. Then, if doing so, you’ll make some delicious connections.

Thanks toblin: By chance I’ve already read it as well as Isak Dinesan’s original book. You’re right. Wonderful connections.

I like the hair washing scene in the english patient.
Id never get my H to watch it though

Maineparent- I will pick up that sauce for another time, always looking for something easy

mythmom- I was running late so decided to go skip the movie store and go with something from home, picked a pile of 5 or so for H to chose from, ended up watching French Kiss. Neither one of us had seen it. I think it must be DS girlfriends. I agree with you on the Kiss.

Yeah, glad to have agreement, always. It makes the movie IMO.

RED by Kieslowski. Although Blue is my favorite of his Tres Couleurs.
