“Roadhouse” with Patrick Swayze. I will gleefully watch it again and again.

I loved “Napoleon Dynamite.” I started giggling as soon as the first scene where he throws the action figure out the window and I haven’t stopped yet. I thought it was clever, harmless fun.

Ah, yes! I love That Thing You Do and Beautiful Girls.

And I can’t believe no one (including me) has mentioned Four Weddings And A Funeral.

Also, two more of the guiltiest of guilty-pleasure movies:

American Pie. Like The Simpsons, naughty but ultimately conventional and big-hearted.
Zulu. The ultimate in pre-post-colonialism and racial paranoia. And a heck of a movie.

Although I abhor chick flicks, I adored Love, Actually.

I will see a truly horrid movie if it is set in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Maine, Nova Scotia, just for a glimpse of the scenery.

I’ve actually found some hidden gems because of this, like The Shipping News. Went to see it just because it was set in Nova Scotia. Turned out to be a great movie.

Another movie I saw because the review highlighted the beautiful Lake Tahoe scenery was The Deep End. Besides the breathtaking scenery, the storyline and acting were great. Highly recommend.

Now, a movie that was supposed to be pretty, but was absolutely horrid, was Insomnia, with Al Pacino, Hilary Swank (Yuk!), and Robin Williams. Almost unwatchable, despite supposedly being set in beautiful Alaska. Really bad movie.

I just discovered RedBox. Where have I been?

What a good deal. There was a particularly awful horror movie that I heard about and wanted to see, but didnt want to actually pay $5 to see and it’s not on cable. For $1, I was able to rent it, watch it and return it.

Lots of guilty pleasure movies on the screen, when I rented. I may be spending more time checking them out for that price!

I’ve also been known to stop channel surfing when I run across the Blue Lagoon…although that one is SO BAD that I change the channel if I hear someone coming…my ultimate low in GP’s.

Napolean Dynamite - It was ok. H and D on the other hand LOVE it watch it all the time!

Wedding Singer/Never Been Kissed - can’t turn them off

Notting Hill -I too am a Hugh Grant FAN! (I know, I know) Although, I could never see his attraction to the Julia Roberts character in that movie

Freaky Friday/Mean Girls - we rarely watch TV during the week, but they were both on last night. Dear H just cannot understand what happened to LL. We also are big fans of Parent Trap.

The Last Holiday - love Queen Latifah

The Holiday - just love it!

Love seeing there are many of the same movies that keep popping up.

Hugh Grant is in Love Actually. So is Colin Firth. I was never a big fan of either of them until I saw that movie. Now I don’t mind a movie with either of them. They are both charming in the movie. It should be on at Christmastime, so please make sure to see it. Also stars Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, and Liam Neeson.

I don’t call this a guilty pleasure, but I truly loved the movie Becoming Jane. The story truly hit home for me, and I am now excited to read some of Jane Austen’s books. I recently received a Kindle as a prize and was delighted to see most of Jane Austen’s books as free downloads.

I did see the Jane Austen Book Club, which came out shortly after Becoming Jane, and that movie was not good at all. I guess I’m not totally ready for chick flicks.

So, if you’re looking for a Jane Austen movie, choose Becoming Jane, and avoid Jane Austen Book Club.

Montegut: Alaska? Remember Runaway Train? (1985) H and I are fond of quoting a few funny lines from that movie.

There is a new movie being filmed in Alaska called Everybody Loves Whales with Kristin Bell, Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski. Not sure when it is coming out.

If you like cold, desolate landscapes–see The Island (“Ostrov” 2006 Russian Movie).

For Alaska fans.
Limbo- John Sayles directed, wrote and produced this film starring Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, David Strathairn, Vanessa Martinez and Kris Kristofferson. Love.

I wish they had left the porn couple out of Love Actually. It makes it unwatchable as a family movie. And it is so great in every other way!

I hated ND. Maybe because I essentially grew up in that time and place, and it just reminded me of the most AWFUL parts of high school.

Monetgut, go for renting the BBC versions of the Jane Austen books. We are just finishing up Emma (how could Angelina Jolie divorce Jonny Lee Miller, who is in Emma?!?). P&P and S&S are both wonderful. Long, but true to the story and just right in tone and character. P&P is a GREAT Colin Firth movie, too.

The most recent ones that I can think of that I’ve watched, no matter how far along the movie is when I’m channel surfing, is Steel Magnolia’s (love ya like my luggage <g>), American President, Independence Day, Forrest Gump, Sound of Music, It’s a Wonderful Life, Birdcage, and this is “guilty pleasures,” right? … um, I’ll fess up to Star Trek movies, not all of 'em, I do have some taste … but yeah, they usually catch me … I confess.</g>

I totally forgot about the porn couple. Perhaps tape the TV version? It really is a good family movie, with Liam Neeson’s son and the octopus Christmas play. Really, really love that movie.

I will have to check out Limbo. Oh, and anything with whales, I’m there.

I don’t know Runaway Train, but I did love the movie Mystery, Alaska, an early Russell Crowe movie about a hockey team. Burt Reynolds was great in it.

The family movie Alaska was late in son’s family movie interest time, but I have always wanted to see it just for the scenery. Would have loved to have seen it on the big screen.

Another movie I even saw in the theater twice was The Perfect Storm. Anything on the ocean with tidal waves, I’m there. I even saw the Poseidon remake, despite Fergie being the singer. Gag!

I am dying to see The Hereafter just for the tidal wave scene!

A nerdy movie that is so much better than Revenge of the Nerd would be Real Genius, and Dr Strangelove for best all time movie (not necessary a guilty pleasure). Now for a really guilty pleasure, Summer Lovers, beautiful exotic Greece and women, need I say more? And lastly, a more recent sappy movie that I would never admit liking unanonymously is The Notebook.
