Movie Recommendations

I thought I’d start up a thread recommending movies to people… and maybe everyone else would like to make some recommendations as well… I’m sure you’ve heard of most of these, but maybe there will be a few that people will want to look into, because I’d highly recommend them. I’ll try to put things in different categories… and since i’m such a dork i’ll add the IMDB ratings so you can see what other people thought of them as well (i actaully have my movies all done out in a spreadsheet… so these ratings are about a week or so old… haha )…

This was a great thread last year (“Favorite Movies and Recommendations”):
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=108472</a></p>

I like the American Film Institute’s various lists:
http://www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/100yearslist.aspx</a> (top quotes, laughs, stars, villains. etc.)

Every time I try to list my favorite films, I just can’t stop. I don’t see many current movies, though - I’d rather use my downtime for classic films, and there are so many great ones!

On the spur of the moment, I’d name All about Eve, Singin’ in the Rain, The Maltese Falcon, Bringing up Baby, Adam’s Rib, The Letter, Godfather II, and Groundhog Day as among my very favorites, but I’ll be remembering movies I’ve left out all day long.

i don’t know how i forgot garden state either… but the soundtrack to that movie is one of the best soundtracks i’ve ever heard.

Cartoon:

Chicken Run

Proof–just say this movie last week and was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think a movie about math and mathematicians could be so interesting. And NO violence!

Remember the Titans
Seabiscuit
The Hurricane

Classic mystery
The lady vanishes
cinematography
Days of heaven

The Perfect Storm

“Downfall,” about Hitler’s last days, was awesome. Did anyone see that? It was in the theatres in 2004.

I forgot about two of my favorite love stories: Before Sunrise and Before Sunset - am hoping for a third movie! I saw them at the Princeton Univ. Adult film session last year - if you haven’t seen them go rent them now.

Ah yes, saw those in reverse order but it didn’t matter. They were great!

OH CHEFMOM! I loved before sunrise and before sunset! how could i forget to put them on my list! duh!
