Whale Rider, Up, Toy Story 3, Enchanted are all family friendly and I (as an adult) enjoy them all.

If they haven’t seen Jaws they might find it fun in a campy way.

We watched The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (Don Knotts) for an adult Halloween get-together, and it was so unintentionally funny we were all laughing until we cried. However it could have been just us/what we were imbibing that night. Although there was no alcohol involved, there were some rich desserts.

One of my favorite movies is Lars and the Real Girl. It’s PG-13 and has adult themes, but nothing explicit, if that makes sense. It’s funny and sweet and in the end has real family values.

Besides Netflix, your local library might have movies - ours has a huge selection, including recent releases, plus we can check them out for 3 weeks!

I love Woody Allen’s Radio Days. Or his very old movies like Bananas or Sleeper. I also support Princess Bride, although I thought everyone on earth has seen it already.

They have but that makes it more fun. You already know your favorite bits & can anticipate them. ;)

My kids had trouble getting into the old classic dramas, although I haven’t tried in the last few years.

My favorite right now is The Blind Side, based on a true story about a wealthy white family that takes in a homeless African-American 16 year old. He learns football in high school (he’s huge), the family helps him pull up his GPA from 0.6, and he ends up with numerous football scholarships. Was a first round draft pick after college, in 2009. Sandra Bullock is absolutely wonderful. Anyway, everyone loved the movie, which is a rare thing in our family.

Radio Days! I remember loving that one but don’t recall the details much…
Count me as one on this earth who has not seen Princess Bride. Do you think I can get the men to watch this? Maybe I should reserve this one to watch with the girls.

Bonnie419–The Blind Side is a really nice movie but one we watched fairly recently. My kids, thankfully, do like some classic old movies like the Hitchcock thrillers, Christmas Carol, Gone with the Wind, etc.

Minority Report is a good suggestion and one we have at home but haven’t watched in a while.
Did watch Invictus recently–good movie.
Paycheck sounds like it might work quite well for this group–I’ll look into this one too!

My son enjoyed Princess Bride when he was a teenager; he’s 23 now but can (and will) still quote from it. It really isn’t girly; not at all like Princess Diaries!

Watched that (along with three other movies) the other day on a transatlantic flight…LAME…didn’t think it was possible for such good actors to have no personality whatsoever, but yes, they managed.

I also saw Win Win. Nice feel good movie. May have the f bomb a couple of funny times in the non-airplane version.

One of my kids and I watched Charade on netflix instant watch recently–I’d forgotten how much humor they throw in with the suspense. I’m also a big fan of The Trouble With Harry–lesser known Hitchcock film that’s very funny.

(And stumbled into The Dish back when it was in theaters. I love that movie. It’s in my top 5 of all time.)

(My family’s also big on Buckaroo Banzai. Very quirky fun with lines you’ll quote for years.)

I finally got to see Man on Wire recently (2008 Oscar-winning documentary). It was quirky but fascinating - tells the story of Phillippe Petit, the man who walked on a high wire between the two towers of the World Trade Center back in the 1970s. I absolutely loved it. It’s got a 100 percent rating on rottentomatoes.com, which takes some doing.

More on the serious, thoughtful side – the kind of movie you want to talk about after: Never Let me Go (Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield); Gattaca (Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Alan Arkin and Jude Law); Rabbit-Proof Fence (Kenneth Branagh).
