Great Debaters.

does the debater movie show a college? sometime movies depict college X, but is filmed at college Y.

Circle of Friends (1995)-set in part at University College, Dublin

Dying to Belong - The campus administration helps to cover up the cause of death of a sorority pledge who was killed in a hazing incident.

Not Another Teen Movie - Discussion of Princeton and art school both come up in a few parts of the movie, as does the issue of scholarship.

And of course the tv show Greek is set entirely at college, focusing mostly on Greek life, but also covering issues such as tolerance, academic integrity, time management, ect.

I’m sure there are others, but none that I can think of that I’ve not seen already listed other than maybe Stand and Deliver, since it involves the AP calculus exam taken senior year.

prime, I am not familiar with GReek the tv show. is it a cable show? whe is it on , and what channel is it on?

I just saw the new Indiana Jones movie. I had come nice clips of a university as well as a lot of refs to academia. Plus it had the theme of ‘finish your education!’.

Where did they film the new Indiana Jones movie?

also, I saw that someone specified Born into Brothels had some sort of education theme , reference, or setting. I have not seen it: what is the education link there?

ALso, I will add Mr Smith Goes to Washington which is not education per se, but he is a young freshman senator all full of idealism, which I see as soft link to education.

Some of it was at Yale University.

Anyone know which college at Yale?

-Legally Blonde (Harvard, of course)
-Rudy (Notre Dame)
-Perfect Score (the SAT hehe)
-Harry Potter!!! (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) - aka Oxford and Cambridge sigh
-Animal House (know the guy who plays Neidermeyer…sp?)-Mak Metcalf
-Mona Lisa Smile (Wellsley)
-Proof (U Chicago)
-Love Story (Harvard)
-GREASE- Ridel High!!! and Grease 2 of course

mathmom:

I think there were scenes from all different areas of Yale and New Haven, not just one college…

I think there were scenes from all different areas of Yale and New Haven, not just one college…

and i forgot a more recent movie:

COLLEGE ROAD TRIP w/ RAVEN SYMONE haha never saw and hope to God I never have to

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) - Harold and Kumar stop by Princeton University.

Mean Girls (2004) - Northwestern University is mentioned a few times and the high school is located in Evanston.

Superbad (2007) - Dartmouth College is mentioned, and the main characters are seniors who are getting ready to leave for college in the fall.

The Graduate (1967) - The story focues on a recently graduated college student.

Platoon (1986) - The main character is a volunteer for the army, but the rest of the soliders are either college/high school dropouts or people who are marginalized in society.

I went to see College Road Trip. It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t worse than I expected. Thought Donny Osmond was funnier than the pig.

I don’t think I’ve seen Yale since 1977 - I wouldn’t know one college from another anymore, but I didn’t remember any that looked like that! My friends all lived in gray colleges. One was in the modern one with the pie-shaped rooms.

Getting In (1994)- about getting into Johns Hopkins Med

I recall scenes from a Tom Clancy flick there were supposed to be JHU Medical Institutions but were really scenes of Homewood campus (specially, the area between Remsen and Mergenthaler). Anyone else recall?

Also, “Love Story” includes Radcliffe; Allie McGraw’s character makes remarks contrasting differences in facilities between Harvard and Radcliffe.

“A Seperate Peace” - that was a good movie, and quite a good book too.

We made D#2 watch “Animal House” after her ED acceptance; she told her father she’ll never forgive him for that.

what is ‘A Seperate Peace’ about? What is the setting?

The setting of A Separate Peace is a prep school in New Hampshire during World War 2. The plot revolves around two boys, best friends, but possibly jealous of each other. The plot revolves around the question of whether an accident was really an accident.

real genius- loosely based on caltech:)
