I emailed Michelle and asked her to check in on this thread and see if she had any other ideas for you based on what UA may already have in place. So don’t be surprised if you hear from her.

I know that this is all going to work out fine. I hope that the support you have seen here gives you (and your dad) some additional confidence in this new adventure!! It sure does give me a warm and fuzzy feeling!!

Grammargirl94: D will be on campus early as an OA Leader in RCS-N -I will PM Bamagirls with D’s contact info in case you need any additional help (you sure have many offers…that is the Bama way!) She has a car. She will be picking up a friend from home at BHM (who will also be a Freshman and flying in on her own on the 18th.) I imagine they will be making runs to Target and Wal-Mart later that day and could give you a ride.

You mentioned some medical issues that have prevented you from getting your license…a little heads up about flying Southwest in that regard…seats are not pre-assigned with Southwest so you typically stand in a line at the gate based on a # on your ticket and then select any open seat once on the plane. If standing any length of time is an issue for you - take the time now to ask your Dr. for a letter that notes any medical issue along with a request that you be allowed to pre-board. Show the letter to the ticket agent at the gate check in and they will allow you to board in the first group on vs. having to stand in a long line and it will also allow you more seat choice.

I also think if you let housing know your situation (flying in alone; age restrictions for hotel etc.) and with a roommate already in your suite for OA they will likely allow you early access to your room vs. having to sleep on the couch.

Good luck with everything. UA is a very special place, you will love it and find more than enough assistance to make your move-in go well!

Grammargirl, We’ve compiled the list of UA families and their contact info, availability, etc. to help welcome you to your new home at the UA. I also sent you a PM with my email address. Send me your email address via email or PM so I can get the list to you.:)

Thanks everyone…ya’ll are amazing! Roll Tide!:)

I couldn’t have done it without ya’ll. Thanks for coming up with the idea, ahpimommy. My OCD for list making and organization loves projects like this.:)

Hello, everyone! Thanks for all of the help. Y’all (I like that word) can’t begin to imagine how much I appreciate everyone’s hospitality. This situation just confirms my decision to attend Bama. Being the first person in my family to attend a 4-year college right out of high school, and being the first of my siblings to move out of Maryland has left me very nervous. Knowing that I have a huge, welcoming, generous family waiting for me brings tears to my (and my mother’s) eyes. I’ve been in the hospital all day for my aunt, so I haven’t had the opportunity to read all of the posts. I’ll read them soon. Roll Tide!

Think of it as the 13th grade, the next logical step. Judging by your resourcefulness in smartly asking for help (and making some new friends along the way), you’ll do just fine. As my good buddy from Kansas likes to say, “It ain’t nothin’ but a thang.”

Hi everyone! I apologize for taking so long to respond. I got home from being with my aunt as the storm hit, and I just got my power back today. My very persistent father made a deal with his boss that he will work several 12-hour shifts in exchange for being able to move in with me on the 16th. He will fly down with me, help me move in, and then fly back on the 16th, so I may still need some help on the 17th and 18th to get myself situated. Thank you everyone for offering so much encouragement, help, and advice. I really appreciate it! 17 days and counting. Roll Tide!

Great news you dad can make it! DS is moving into Riverside East Sunday 8/19 and we leave home on the 16th (driving to Bama) and will be in town from the 17th to the 20th.

I’ll PM you our contact info in case you want to hop a ride to the store with us, need help finishing the move in, have any questions about Bama or Riverside that DS (Sophmore) may be able to help with or what ever else might come up.
