I know that if we plan on going through recruitment in August we have to move in early considering rush week starts the 17th, but is there a specific process? Who should I let know that I’ll need to move in early, and do we have to pay the $50/day fee? Should I call housing?
Also, UT says that they won’t accept any packages before the 19th. I am an OOS student and will need to ship some things down. If I let the school know that I’m moving in early will they accept shipments? Or can I just have things shipped directly to my dorm address?
I’m going to UT in the fall, and I got an e-mail titled “Housing Headlines” about signing up for a move in time. You should be able to sign up by going to you UT Direct page and then to your My Housing page, or just click on the link in the e-mail. To my understanding, you can sign up for early move in there.
As to the shipping problem, I would call housing and ask them about what you can do. If you need to, you might try taking down what you need in your luggage, and making arrangements to receive the stuff you ship on or after the 19th.
Have a parent look into joining Texas Parents - The Parents Association for the University. This is an excellent resource with a very active closed facebook page for parents to learn and share experience and stay in touch with what is going on at the U. They may be able to accept your packages at their office.
I think it is still early to request early move-in since the dorm assignments don’t come out until July. You will be responsible for the $50 / day charge. I know the Longhorn Band reimburses students that are moved in early for LHB auditions. I don’t think a greek organization will be inclined to do the same. Good luck!
Registration for “Moov-in” is open now online - including early move-in dates.
Yes, you can request via the housing status page for a mooove in date as early as 8/17. It’s not available for all dorms however due to summer renovations. I am not sure what would happen if you requested early move-in and then were assigned to one of those dorms that are being renovated.
I know of girls that stayed in hotel rooms close to campus so that’s an option. But I would check to see if you can move in early.
