moving in high school

We will be moving next summer, between my daughter’s sophomore and junior year. She plays soccer and has indicated that she wants to play in college. She currently plays club and will be able to move into a decent club team at our new location. She worked out with the new club team this summer for a bit and they have indicated that she will have a spot. Anyway, we are getting bombarded with advice on cover letters and resumes etc. How does a move like this affect the recruiting process? If she sends out cover letters, should she be up front with the coaches about moving? We haven’t told our current club about our move yet.

Definitely be upfront with coaches about the move. You will want to establish a pattern of honesty and trust with the coaches. Just be sure to keep all her stats, coaches’ names and contact numbers, names of tournaments, awards won, etc., from the old program for her athletic resume.

Wait until the move is about to take place and send the coaches a note indicating your address change along with the name of the new club she will be playing for and a schedule if she has one. Do not tell the college coaches before you tell the club coach you are leaving. They talk. Your daughter will have her mail forwarded for a while after you move.
