I will be attending university in the States, but because my family lives in a foreign country, they have suggested I move in/attend orientation alone. Do a lot of international students move in without parents? Is it difficult to do everything by yourself?

I’m a domestic, but I’ll be moving in without my parents, most likely. I hope it won’t be too bad!

I’m already at a university in the UK, and I’m doing a one year exchange to a university in America.
My parents took me to uni here, but it’s an easy process… any university will have hundreds of new undergrads, so there’ll be sign posts and helpers everywhere.
All you have to do is queue and fill out papers.
The advantage of parents is having them carry your stuff!

You’ll be alright. Keep your posessions to a minimum and be prepared emotionally.

At our orientation, which I will be leading this summer, parents and students are separated during the program. Also we, along with most schools, have a group of students that help other students move in. Welcome week activities are very common if not ubiquitous across american universities.
