I’ve decided to pay for college completely on my own this time around as a sophomore. I’m taking out a private loan and using financial aid. I’m not telling my parents unless they ask. Do parents generally find it a relief when this happens because mine generally used to nag me about it and claim that paying for college for me wasn’t doing anything for them–it was completely for myself (making me seem as the selfish one). So my friend is going to move me in and I’ll be working part-time to help cover expenses. Any advice? I’ve got almost 5,000 from working now.

I’m just so relieved because I won’t have to deal with their nagging and trying to control everything from what I wear to how I act. No strings attached. Now I don’t have to worry that if I don’t act a certain way to them they won’t pay.
