Moving to New state mid-semester

I am currently attending a community college. However, I’m considering moving in about two months. It will be in the middle of the semester. I’m aware this is typically not a big deal. However, I am moving out of state (tn to al). All of my classes will be online, but how will this impact my financial aid?

No impact to your federal financial aid for this semester

I was told they would make me refund my state aid and/or if they find out make me pay out of state tuition. I just want to know for sure because I can’t afford either and it is my last semester

If finaid at the school told you that I would believe them. If some random person told you that, I would ask finaid at the school.

Do you have choice when to move?

I don’t have a large period of time. I have a 2-3 month time frame. I’m hoping to postpone as long as possible. But I haven’t had a chance to call the school. I’m hoping to get in touch with them tomorrow

Are you a dependent student?
See http://www.tn.gov/sos/rules/0240/0240-02/0240-02-02.pdf</a>

The above document maybe out of date, you should check if this document current or not.

I’m not a dependant. I’m actually working two jobs to take care of my little girl.

You need to see if this makes sense with the loss of state aid after the move. It usually takes a year of living in a new state before you are considered for in-state rates.

You really need to have a discussion with your school.

Do the math. Compare the cost of delaying the move till May to the cost of moving as planned.
