Please let me know … I am Business Economics Major - class 2028. Am I eligible to enroll 20 series as well as 10 series. Which one would be best if I add Data Science Minor in future.
From what I can find on the UCSD website, you can enroll in any of these three “Pathways,” seeing as you were placed in Math 20A, 10A, and 18 for these three pathways: UCSD Entry-Level Math Pathways
For your major, the website states that those intending to be business majors should enroll in 20A math series - their justification being “upper division math classes and some upper division economics classes require
the Math 20 series.”
BusinessEconomisc-Updated.pdf (ucsd.edu)
Data science also requires the 20 series math: Minor Requirements – Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute – UC San Diego (ucsd.edu)
You may take Math 20A (regular calculus) or 10A (easier calculus), and/or 18 (linear algebra), according to the placement exam result.
As noted above, business economics accepts 20A or 10A, but recommends 20A. Data science requires 20A and 18.
So it looks like 20A is the most obvious choice in your situation (you can also add 18 if you have an extra space in your schedule, although a linear algebra course is usually taken later by those who need it).
Thank you so much for your guidance and links, its clear that I need to take 20A.
Thank yo so much. I will go for 20 series and 18 (for data science minor).
