Mr. Rogers Explained

Just found this segment in my Facebook feed and it brought back some sweet memories. It also brought back the memory of the time S decided to feed the fish like Mr. Rogers and used half the container of fish food. I hated to clean our aquarium, but it was remove the fish and replace the water or let them all die of gluttony! As a CC long timer with kids who didn’t have a computer at home until elementary school and internet access until a year or two after that, Mr. Rogers was a staple of their early lives.

I loved Mr Rogers.
I was a nanny in the early '80’s and while the kids were sometimes impatient with the " speed of his delivery", ;),
I always made a point to watch it with them so we could talk about it.
I also made a special point to attend a live performance of Mr Rogers neighborhood, even though my oldest was barely two, when they visited as part of a local PBS station anniversary.

My eldest adored Mr Rogers-I think it was his way of “decompressing” at the end of the day. He’s now in his 30s and has really fond memories of Daniel Striped Tiger and King Friday XIII!

I miss those days. My oldest watched him all the time, but the younger brother never did. I think that it’s his loss.

Our favorite episodes where the operas. We still sing songs from Spoon Mountain, Bubble Land, A Granddad for Daniel, A Star for Kitty, …

Also, the jokes that the kids didn’t laugh at but really cracked my husband and I up. “Correct as usual, King Friday” always made me giggle.

I adopted my daughter from China at 23 months, and Mr. Rogers really comforted her when she first came home, although her English was extremely limited after a mere 2 weeks with me. So calming!

I loved Daniel Striped Tiger and Lady Elizabeth.

He was a special guy. Many don’t realize he was an ordained Presbyterian minister. <a href=“Mr. Rogers was an Ordained Presbyterian Minister”>http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2011/06/mr-rogers-was-an-ordained-presbyterian-minister/</a></p>

There was a Lady Aberlin, I don’t remember Lady Elizabeth.
I would have loved to have seen Eddie Murphy’s face, when Fred Rogers knocked on his door.
I knew he was a minister, but did you know he had a great sense of humor & according to his wife, his favorite word started with sh & ends with it?

Absolutely loved him (and my kids) The man was a saint. This book was excellent…showed a reporter who followed him for years…and was humbled again and again by his goodness.

When my oldest was in the hospital, around 18 months, he was upset in recovery, they played a cassette (dating myself) of Mr. Rogers for him on his stretcher…he calmed right down…I wrote him and he wrote the loveliest letter back. A truly kind and humble man.

Mr. Rogers and Shining Time Station were the only tv shows I ever watched with my S when he was little. (Actually, the were the only shows he was allowed to watch.) Mr. Rogers was wonderful, a lovely man.

Oops, I think I was thinking of Lady Elaine.

My brother-in-law thought I was crazy for letting my kids watch it and said he couldn’t understand how anyone could get anything out of it. Of course he couldn’t. It was way beyond his level.
