If you had a choice between going to school at Michigan State or Cal Poly SLO, which would you choose? Which would give you the best education?

say money is not an issue and youre coming from OOS for both schools

If weather is not a huge issue for you, MSU all the way imho!!!

Go State!! :)

Depends on the major you are interested in. Cal Poly is very well known for its engineering, architecture, agriculture, and business. Less for the other fields.

Incidentally, the current president of Cal Poly is from MSU.

I visited CalPoly over the summer with our S. It was an amazing campus. A little on the old side, but had some nice new buildings here and there. The weather is amazing and its close to an awesome beach. Academically the above poster hit it on the nail. It’s good for specific majors. I think in CA it is the only public architecture school. In addition you have to like there way of teaching. For engineering its extremely hands on. Like they teach you to use a lathe and other machinery.

What do you want to major in?

Colleges don’t give you an education. Colleges provide the resources that enable you to earn an education.

Therefore: The best college for you is the one you would work hardest at, once you enroll. It matters very little where you go to college - it matters a great deal what you do once you get there.

Michigan State is also quite strong in engineering, agriculture, and business. I’d say if you’re looking at anything in the sciences, or certainly anything in humanities or social sciences, Michigan State is going to be stronger. For engineering it’s close but I might give a slight edge to Cal Poly. SLO is also a charming little town with a great climate just a few miles from the ocean, all of which I’d find attractive. But Michigan State has better basketball.
